About to pull the trigger on a 2520 with 62" MMM, FEL, ballast box, and front blade for snow (brother talked me out of a blower).

Just wondering what add ons you all would recommend or what other things I might want the dealer to install before delivery. We have 10 acres, 1/2 woods 1/2 grass. Paved driveway ~400' long.

It seems like I read about some additional hydraulic options, etc that might be useful but I cannot recall what they were or if they apply to the 2520.

Thanks in advance...

I've got about 350' of driveway to keep plowed all winter. And 3 parking areas. And 3-4 neighbors and the cluster mail-box a mile and a half down the road...

Nonetheless, I've found that over the course of the winter - I run out of space to "push" the snow off to the side any longer. I have to use the loader bucket to "move" the snow someplace away from the road and buildings.

That's one of the biggest reason's I've stayed with a loader bucket and a rear blade for all my snow chores.

A blower would be a quicker and often easier way to handle the snow buildup - but, it won't work for "beans" in the cramped and often multi-building's or other structures close to the tractor situations that I have to plow in.

If it were my dollars - I swap the front blade for a rear blade. And be able to move snow in reverse as well as forward.

That said, get all the lights - front and back - you can.

I agree. I would like to have a blower, but using one every couple years (around here) really doesnt justify the $$ of one. I can use the loader/rear blade year round. And the rear blade just pops on in seconds (thanks to the quick hitch).

Engine block heater would be another good buy. And if your winters are cold and parking in a unheated shed, trans heater might be another good idea. I only have a block heater and use it several times every year.

I have the warning light brush guards and forward lighting kit. I actually have one of the lights facing rearward so I get light to see rear implements.

I also have the hydraulic diverter valve to allow me to leave the MMM independent lift hooked up and switch between bucket curl and mower lift with the valve.

If you do go with a rear blade, go with an iMatch hitch to make it easier to connect and disconnect the blade.

I went with the front blade also for snow removal..I just hate looking backwards all the time to remove snow with the rear blade..

If you are getting the front blade then you will atleast have the front hitch for the blower if you ever decide to get one.

Work light are very nice especially in the winter when it is dark out and you have to move snow. Most front implements block the headlights making them almost useless. The brushguards and front and rear worklights are a very nice option and I think they will come in handy for you.

As far as the snow blower/blade dilemma. My first question is do you get a lot of snow where your located? If you do I would opt for a snow blower. But if you live somewhere that gets 30" of snow a season I would get the blade.

Everyone is going to give there opinions but you have to take into consideration there location. I myself need a snow blower as it's nothing for me to receive 30 inches of snow overnight. After you get that 2 days in a row you quickly run out of room to put the white stuff. Am I making any sense.. :D :confused2:

FEL question? What size bucket did you opt for. I would make sure you got a bucket width at least as wide as your tractor width. I upgraded to the 61" bucket as I didn't want to run over the dirt I was missing with the narrower bucket.

As far as the Independent lift, I went with it as I didn't like that long steel arm hanging down when the tractor was setting and the 3pt hitch was all the way lowered. Also if I decided someday to get a tiller and I didn't feel like taking the mower off that day. I could just lock it all the way up and I wasn't lowering the mower deck into the dirt when lowering the tiller. I know they make a chain kit for holding the deck up but I didn't want to crawl under the tractor eveytime I want to lock the deck all the way in the up position. With the independent lift you can do that without leaving your seat..

Again all just my opinion :2cents: and you know what they say about opinions. :D

I always liked the extra front lights on the SX3100..I bet that hood would bolt right on a 2520..

They probably all have them now, but I would caution you to MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE that your machine has the "new-style" three-point draft arms when it is delivered. This will prevent many headaches with tire-rubbing issues and they are $300 apiece if you have buy them later. There are numerous threads on here showing the difference, but basically, there is an extra offset in the implement end of the arm.

If you will be mowing on hills, you may wish to consider wheel weights or filled tires for better traction.

Also, if you deal with leaves (you mentioned property is half trees) there is a mulching kit available for the 62D.

I personally, would also make sure the dealer provides you with BOTH of the PTO shaft guards. They are little plastic beer-can sized covers that go over the PTO stubs when not in use (to keep them from getting dirty/rusty). My dealer only gave me one, and they are $25 apiece if you have to buy them later.

I agree wholeheartedly with the comment for extra lights, you will need them for snow duty.

I have a front blower, but if I were doing it again, I would just have the loader, rear blade and a rear blower (OK, maybe the front blade too). I hate having to remove my loader to use the front blade/blower.

Best of luck with your machine, I believe you will be very happy with it.
