OK, I messed up. I neglected to put anti-gel additives in the diesel for my 2520. It's my first winter with a diesel, I'm still learning... :)

I'm trying to remove the fuel filter, but I can't get the locking collar to budge The filter is positioned so that it's nearly impossible to get a good grip on the collar. I've tried using a strap wrench, but without removing the operator platform, you can't get on it.

What is the best way to remove the filter? Is there a tool that is made to loosen the collar?

I appreciate any and all suggestions.

Thanks!

Steve

PS - I already bought Power Service red and white based on information that I read here.

I'll bet it's positioned similarly to where it is on my 4010, behind the vertical tower for the FEL; I had the same problem with it. If it's the same, you can remove the assembly by removing the 12 mm bolt that holds it in place on the frame. THEN you can rotate the whole assembly up to where you can get some channel locks onto the collar. Just put the collar back on finger tight.

Yep, I bet it's in the same place. I thought about taking the whole assembly loose, but wasn't sure.

I removed the three bolts that hold the front part of the platform (behind the pedals) and that gives me more room, but I still can't get it loosened up.

The only channel locks that I have aren't big enough to grip the collar. I think I need to make a trip to the tool store...

Thanks for the suggestion!

I got mine loose with big channel locks that I keep in a tool carrier on the FEL tower, after I removed that 12 mm bolt and rotated the assembly (the fuel flex lines allow this) up to where I could get to it. I've a chain wrench that would have worked, too. This chain wrench is what I used on the oil filter initially, too. Have sense bought one of those 3 fingered oil filter wrenches from NAPA for it.

I still removed the fuel filter assembly for the 2nd fuel filter change recently. It's easier that way than mucking around down there half blind behind the FEL tower. Found a 12 mm socket binds in there. Better to get a 12 mm box end ratchet wrench.

Here's a pic of my tool belt. It's chock a block full now. This is an earlier picture. The channel locks are to the left.
