John Deere 2520
I bought a new 2520 today and need to decide on a fel bucket size. The tractor currently has a 54 inch one on it. However, for an extra $30 I can get the 61 incher. I will be using it to mostly move fill, firewood, mulch and gravel. Any thoughts

Get the 61"er and don't look back:D

With the 61" on mine, it will easily lift whatever fits in it or fills it up. Just make sure you're set up with plenty of ballast on the rear.

Get a 61 , there ant no need to play. :D
2520 will handle anything you put in it. Then weld
grade 70 3/8 hooks on it. from AW-direct . then weld 1/4 inch gussets
on the inside right under the hooks. and it will be bullet proof....;)
and dont forget the tooth bar. order it from Makham. order it 60 and 5/8 wide and its perfect fit. Did i leave anything out.....:p

Chris....:)

Thanks boys, this is what I got. First, I traded my 04 2210 w/ fel, mmm and box scraper (dealer gave me $11,500 wow!) and bought 07 2520 w/ 200cx, 5' box scraper and loaded r4's for $16,200.

Andy -
Congrats! Sounds like a great deal. You will love that machine. Oh yea - 61 in is the way to go. I got the JD toothbar which I know Chris feels is overkill but I like it - it is a PITA to get off though b/c of a tight fit. Need to do some grinding on it. Just switched it out for the cutting edge in prep for winter.

Ya Brad , I got fed up with that thing. it weighs a ton. Mine now is a conversation peace in the corner....:) not only was it to hard to get on and off. it was just way to heavy to carry around. i put up with it for 4 months.
when you finaly get fed up like i did , get a Markam. for $232 it a deal. and has more teeth closer together. and just slides right on. and at least you can move it around. i have popped stumps out with it. its very strong. the 232 is worth not haveing to fight it no more. I have took it off 2 or 3 times a day. and i dont mind. i would never have done that with the JD bar.;)

Chris.....:)

I have a 53 on my 2305 so the 61 sounds right for your size tractor. As for the toothbar Markam makes some nice stuff and the customer service is great.

Chris - I couldn't believe how heavy that thing was yesterday when I took it off. I had to but a chain around the two center teeth and hook to a stump then pull back to get the thing off. Not sure how the guys at the shop put it on. I have the cutting edge on now which is much more manageable to put on.
