2320 4 wheel Drive Drive Shaft Spindle Snapped Off at Rear Housing

Got a bit of a problem and wondered if anyone has had this problem. Was doing some brush hogging with my 2320 when the 4 wheel drive, drive shaft began to clank from underneath. Low and behold it had disengaged from the rear housing. A closer look showed the spindle it connected to had snapped off at the housing. Any idea how to replace it? I'm thinking it's a dealer fix and a significant cost.

I'm thinking if there is an exposed stub(output shaft) still sticking out of the housing you may get away with just a new spindle/U-joint. If not, then it probably means tearing into the housing and replacing whatever that holds the output shaft. There could also be damaged parts(gears, retaining rings etc) inside the housing that can't be seen. If you are prepared to service this, get a service manual and have at it. If not, then, a trip to the dealer is in order.

There is a bit of the shaft sticking out of the housing. I'm thinking to replace it I would have to open up the housing, which looks to be challenging. You would think it would be designed with a couple of bolts to remove and then slide out the spindle (or what remains) but not sure if that is the case from looking underneath.

I think to replace that shaft you have to split the center housing from the transmission case. It replaces from the inside. Not an easy fix.

I would buy the factory tech manual or sell it as a two wheel drive tractor

I Know this is an old thread but I have this same problem. Crookedtoe2320, did you figure out how to replace that Rear MFWD output shaft? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem. I both the input pinion shaft (which I was able to easily replace) and the MFWD Output Shaft in the transmission. I'm trying to determine if I need to remove the transmission and disassemble it to replace this shaft or if it's possible to work under the tractor and open up the housing to replace the shaft. Has anyone done this repair? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
