231S FUEL FILTER

I'm new to the forum and have recently bought a Massey Ferguson 231S.

And I love it.

I was attempting to change the fuel filter with a new one. I changed the filter and could not get the new filter to bleed fluid . Or get the bowl to fill with new fuel. I was installing a Wix filter.

After not being able to pump up the new filter,I reinstalled the old one and had no problem pumping it up and filling the bowl. My question is why does this new filter not have perforations or holes in the top or the bottom like the one I removed. Or like this one

and is this the problem ?

Because it is a Wix. Some swear by them, and some (like me) swear at them. They did the same thing to the Allison spin on filter, when you put the magnet on top, it plugged the holes in the filter.

Not enough thinking on their part. Thats why i don't buy Wix!!

Have you considered that you might have the incorrect filter since it looks different than the original one you are replacing? Balwin lists a BF825 filter for that tractor and it has perforations top and bottom in it. Me thinks someone put the wrong filter in the right box OR the Wix catalog contains an error. The Wix 33166 has perforations in the bottom but not the top.

Yes, I think there is some kind of error on the part of WIX. It could be a manufacturing defect, wrong filter in the box or ... I wrote WIX a few days ago and to this point I have got no response .

Will wait a few more days and see if they respond.

Okay !

I bought another filter and as I opened the box I realized what was wrong. I had placed the seal around the rim covering the 4 cutouts that are spaced around the rim of the filter.

Boy did I Feel Stupid!

I now have a new filter installed .

Don't feel bad. All of us have had that happen at least once. I thought the gasket in the picture was glued on so I was sure that that it was the wrong item in the right box.
