Yanmar 2310d
Does anyone have any information on this model of Yanmar? I have owned it for about 1 year, and it has worked very well (used about 60 hours).

What I am after is any information on cross referencing it with other models for parts and stuff. Is there a USA model using the same parts that I could just ask for when I need something?

Also, does anyone have any reliability data on this model? Any problematic parts that I need to look out for? It has the shuttle shift, which seems to mostly work fine, but looks expensive to fix if it breaks. Gear 3-1 is slow to engage for some reason, but works fine once engaged. Just looking for anyone's knowlege on this model. Thanks

Welcome Spence,

I don't have any experience with a 2310D, but I'm sure someone here does.

I do not have a 2310 but I have a 2020d powershift model. I think 3-1 is your highest gear range and 1 is low on the powershift control. If my tractor engaged in high range first gear with as hard a shift as in say 1-1 the tractor woild do a wheelie every time i powershifted from nutral to high-range first. I think this is by design.

I think on my 2020, 4 is the highest gear range.

Thanks for some of the insight.

The 2310D has 4 gear ranges with 3 forward gears, 1 reverse, Powershift. 4-3 appears to be only good for getting from one place to another more quickly (probably 10 mph).

Does anyone know where one can cross reference the 3 cylinder motor to JD models, or others, so I could find parts locally? Was this motor / model ever imported as a JD model, and, if so, which one? I would like to be able to just tell them I need X part for X model JD and get the part. I know I can order most anything online, but then there is down time for shipping and stuff. I would rather just find locally if possible. Anyone?

If you get the parts from JD they'll still have to be ordered.

Maybe so, but does the 2310D, or even just the motor, cross reference to any JD or other USA model directly?

There are many JD dealers I can physically go to. There is something to be said about talking to the parts guy about your problem. They can make recommendation and sometimes offfer insights that you just can't get on the web. Don't get me wrong, I use the web for nearly everything, including buying this tractor, but if I can reference a particular model and not drum up angst at the parts counter over Yanmar vs. JD, then I would like that information. Otherwise, I will use the web. Just asking, so if anyone knows, please tell.

The YM2310D is a nice tractor, it shares a lot of common parts with YM2001, YM2010, YM2020, YM2220, YM2310, YM2402, and YM2420. It is not similar to the YM2002 or 2210. The 20's and 02's have wet brakes and a spin on hydraulic filter, the 01's and 10's do not. The 01's and 02's are not power-shift, whgereas the 10's and 20's are power-shift.

As far as I know, the tractor does not cross well to any JD model, but crosses well to the Yanmar USA YM276D. There are about 5000 Yanmar parts available via JD or that cross over to JD, but that includes some general hardware bolts and nuts and stuff like that, so the real number of valuable parts is less than that, but you need to know part numbers, and that is where buying from a reputable dealer with experience becomes valuable.

Knowledge of what fits and what doesn't, and where to source parts is a "hard learned and hard earned" process. When I used to sell Yanmars I more than once ordered in some part that was non-returnable to see if it was correct. Sometimes it was, sometimes it went on the shelf....and is still on the shelf.

For example, your tachometer cable is an easy JD item. Your front axle pinion bevel gear in the YM2310D is also a JD item, but most guys don't know that and end up buying a used worn out gear for more than a new one.

So I am a little off topic. To answer your question, parts support is fairly good for your model, but it doesn't cross to any JD model. Engine parts are some of the easiest, so that just isn't a worry on these.

Lastly, get a good low hour unreconditioned unit. You will know what you bought and you won't need much. Maybe a seal or two, perhaps a voltage regulator or one of the odd headlight bulbs, but these are easily available through the many guys that post regularly in this forum. Len and Hoye's come quickly to mind, LMTC has rollbars for these now (thanks Wayne), Ernie has forgotten more that I ever knew and Buck at EFC is an amazing resource. The list goes on.

Dave,

Thank you very much for the valuable information. That is what I was hoping someone would already know.

I already own the tractor - about 1 year. I have only owned one tractor, and I didn't even know how to drive it when I bought it. Stupid as it sounds now, I bought the thing sight unseen from a guy over the internet in a different state, and gave him money up front for it. Knowing nothing, I did in fact buy a reconditioned unit from RCO tractor in Texas. I do think, now, that it was reconditioned in Vietnam, but I don't know that for certain. Of course, the tractor "looked" brand new when I received it with no hours on the meter. That seemed good to me in the beginning, but I have since learned what that means.

I have had a few issues with it, but, thankfully no major ones yet. The front wheel hubs leaked badly and required complete rebuild. The bolts used to assemble them were very low grade and constantly worked themselves out. I rebuilt with grade 8 stuff and loctite, and they haven't leaked since. I also lost a radiator, which was replaced by a new one from RCO under the warranty, no problems getting them to cover it.

If I ever buy another tractor, I will know more about what to look for. In the mean time, I have worked this tractor nearly 60 hours since I bought it, and it appears to be a good, durable unit. The work has not been easy. I am landscaping my 1 acre yard, which slopes about 30 feet from front to back. A lot of those hours right now have been FEL work with a fair amount of box blade work. Back and forth contouring the land and, now, spreading lots of topsoil.

Thanks again for the information. If anyone else knows anything of this 2310d unit, I am all ears.
