John Deere 2305
Hi,
I have the Deere 2305 subcompact tractor with backhoe. I purchased a log splitter a week ago to run off the tractors hydraulics because I did not want another engine to take care of. I ran 3/8 hydraulic hoses from the splitter to the tractor with 3/8 quick connect connectors which is what I thought the tractor connection was(cant find any literature on what size it actually is) but it doesnt fit. Tried 1/2 inch and it was way to big and 3/8 is just a hair to big. Could it be that Deere connectors on tractor arent compatible with aftermarket connectors of the same size? Forcing me to buy from Deere?

Welcome to TBN:D

JD uses Pioneer QD's that are not available everywhere, they are not compatible with the standard AG style found at most farm stores like TSC. While no one is "forcing" you to but from JD, they can get what you need at a decent price.

KennyD or anyone:

Do you know why John Deere does not use, "...the standard AG style found at most farm stores like TSC"? My limited research turned up the quote below. I searched around Parker.com a little, but found no other answers.

Reading between the lines I think we are expected to believe the oldest and largest manufacturer is supposed to be the best manufacturer. Furthermore, the 'P' word is also used. In America we are often led to believe if something is patented it must be good.

More specifically if, "...Pioneer is standard equipment on most farm tractors." why don't "...most farm stores like TSC" sell their products? Who is buying - and presumeably using for the expected purpose - the quick disconnects sold at "...most farm stores like TSC"?

Pioneer Quick Couplings are a product of Parker Hannifin Corporation, the largest manufacturer of hydraulic quick couplings in the world.

In the Agricultural market, Pioneer is the oldest quick coupling supplier-more than 50 years. Also the largest, with the broadest product line. As a result, Pioneer is standard equipment on most farm tractors. Major manufacturers have licensed Pioneer, alone, to make quick couplings according to their patents

I would get a set of connectors from your dealer and be done with it. You could take them by your local parts store (TSC, NAPA) to get a match for later use. There are way too many types and sizes of threads and fittings today to keep up with. Are they all needed? NO, but that is the reality of it today.

I have no idea why JD uses these type of QD's vs. other styles. Pioneer/Parker is just a name brand-they make MANY different kinds.

Why are there 100 different light bulbs at the auto parts store? Why don't all car companies just use a basic 1157 taillight bulb? Who knows...But that is the reality of it.

Fact is, like it or not-JD uses these style QD's. One can either go there and get them in one trip or search all over the place trying to save a dollar.

Thanks to all that answered my question. I guess i will just go to my Deere dealer and purchase the QD's there. It will save time and hassle of searching for something else. Thanks again!!
