Just did my first oil change on my 2305 at 32 hrs. Didn't get to 50 Hrs in my first year! I would get more hrs on it, but it just doesn't take very long to mow my lawn and field!

Anyway, I put the recommended 3.4 qts (Delo 15/40), and it appears to be overfilled. It is up nearly a 1/4" above the full line. Has anyone else seen this? Is there something wrong with the manual/specs? I know I got all of the old oil drained properly, and it was quite warm when I drained it.

I cant answer your question. But i do understand why it may be over full.
my 2520 is a bigger tractor with a larger motor. and it only holds
3 quarts........;) I have slowly learned the Manual is not always correct.

My dealer had me run breakin oil for the first 100 hours before switching to allow everything to be seated correctly. slkpk

Did you change the filter too? That may be what the manual included.

I would have run it more, but I have had it one year. Says to change it regardless of the hours after a year.

This link backs up the 3.4 qts in the manual.

I guess it comes down to whether you believe the dipstick, or the manual more. :) I suppose that there is always the possibility that someone installed the wrong dipstick, but I would tend to go by that because I believe that there is more potential to damage the engine with too much oil than there is by not following the manual. I suppose if you put the correct amount of oil in the engine according to the manual, and damaged the engine, you would have a case for having it covered under warranty. Of course you would have to prove that is exactly how much you put in, but there is something in knowing you were the one that was right!

I've changed my 2305 oil twice in 86 hours. Both times I bought 1 gallon of JD oil, 1 filter, and refilled the crankcase to the dipstick line. I started the engine to fill the oil filter, let it sit for a couple of minutes, and topped off the oil to the full mark on the dipstick. Then I pour the remaining oil out of the gallon container into a quart container and have 3/4 quart of oil in it. This will be for the JS-63C oil change. And the cycle continues year after year. :D

Ever since I was a kid, I learned to fill to the full mark, start the engine, let it sit, re-check the dipstick, add if necessary, and make a "note" in the owners manual. Never been burned. :)

I checked after it sat all night, and it was still at the same level. There were quite a few bubbles, but apparently not enough to bring it down very much at all.

I drained 3/4 qt (couldn't save the oil), and now it is just below full. Looks like the amount needed to fill this thing is about 2 3/4 - 3 qt. Kind of irritating at $4.00 per qt.

turk,

Are you sure? My 2210 only uses 2.1 qts.

This is good information to know. I have a 2305 (sister tractor of 2210),
and my dealer told me 3.4 quarts also. Guess I will stop at 2 quarts and recheck level. I have always heard that overfilling with oil leads to problems.
