Several weeks ago on one of the discussions about fan blade replacement and removal of the driveshaft I had looked at mine and thought I had seen grease fittings on my driveshaft.
Today after removing mower deck and jacking up the tractor . I found mine does have a fitting on the front and rear part of shaft.
The rear one isn't to hard to get to but the front one is a bear!!!!!!
After grinding off some of the grease gun fitting I was able to get grease in both of the fittings.
My 2305 is about 2yr 3mo old maybe this is something new on newer models versus the older ones and 2210.

My 2305 is about the same age as yours. Theres only one zrk on the top drive shaft by the fan and it's a PITA to get too. I also ground down a tip and it works fine. I jack the tractor up using the FEL and it ain't a problem to get too any more. slkpk

Would have used the FEL but mine was off so I used a jack . After raising the tractor about 6" it wasn't to bad. The front one was a bear to see and it get turned so I could get the grease gun on the fitting.

I assume they are in the U-joints? It would make sense there is a zerk in each end...

kennyd, your righr it would make sense but I only have that one zerk on both of the drive shafts. Many others I have talked to also only have 1 and some don't have any. slkpk

My 2305 is 3 years old and it has 2 grease fittings on the main drive shaft as well. The best way to grease these fittings is to use a needle nozzle grease injector. The thin needle nozzle is easy to use and can be found at any auto parts store for about five or six bucks. For those folks who only found 1 grease fitting, I suggest you carefully rotate the fly wheel (ignition switch OFF) and look for the second fitting. The drive shaft for the front wheel drive does not have any grease fittings. I also note with interest the absence of any information with respect to these fittings in the service section of the operator's manual.

I agree about the service manual not listing these at all .
Nice way for JD to make more money !!!!!!!
