background: while filling the tank the bendable diesel can spout came dislodged and took a dip into the tank *poof*. should've left well enough alone as the tank/gauge/tractor ran fine after the mishap. went fishing for the spout one evening w/ a make-shift hook made from a wire clothes hanger & managed to pluck the spout from the tank, but now the fuel gauge won't move from 'E' even though there's fuel in the tank.

i'm going to assume i've damaged some sort of 'float' in the tank - safe assumption?

is this a repair that a 'normal' subcompact owner can pull off? i pulled a page from another post diagraming how to remove the 2305's tank here fuel tank jpg & i'm definitely able to dig into this if others feel this is the best fix for the gauge. think it's necessary to remove the tank or would there be another angle i should approach this from?

looked for the better part of an hour & couldn't really come up w/ anything & the users here have helped me in the past ... so i'm asking for assistance again.

thanks for your time in advance,

lanemc

You may not need to remove the tank completely, if you can get the 'sending unit' out without doing so.
I have a Massey GC2400, when I lift my seat it is right there in the center of the tank.
You have probably knocked the neoprene float from the holder, it should be black in color.
Just need to remove the sending unit, fish out the float, put it back together, then reinstall.

don87, thanks for the really rapid reply. pretty nieve about the schematics of the tank & i'll have to look into what a 'sending unit' is. the fuel tank opening is just forward of the steering wheel/console of the 2305, though i'm positive each tractor is quite a bit different.

also, anyone have a good schematic of the tank itself and it's mechanicals?

again, thanks a million!

There is a pretty good picture of it in John Deere Parts.

There is a pretty good picture of it in John Deere Parts.
Part number 30........the end of the long shaft.......the square 'thingy'. That's the float. More than likely it came off the shaft.
Hope this helps.

@ davkir & don87 thank you once again - this is exacty what i'm going to need to dig into this. Have actually visualized that piece/part through the fuel inlet [was the major piece that stumped me whie trying to remove the runaway spout] & i'm sure that's where the damage occurred. Trying to visualize how this piece fits/gets into the tank itself as I followed the line on the diagram & it seems to terminate @ the inlet. How does it connect/secure to the tank? Anyone know if tank removal would be a necessity to get @ this?

once again, thank you.
