Tractor
John Deere 125
In a few years im looking to buy a tractor, i want a john deere and have narrowed down to the 2305 2320 and the 2520, i would love to have the 2520 but the size in the 2305 range. 1 question is that with the limited cat 1, what does it mean when its "limited", and would it be enough for doing a house build i like the 2520 cause it has more bang for the buck. i would like to see some prices of them with a 200cx and boxblade, and other stuff, let me know!!!!!

The limited Cat 1 means that it wont lift some implements as high as required per specs..

All three machines will all do a lot, just a little at a time when compared to bigger machines..- The biggest (main) difference between the 2305 and 2320 is the 2320 has larger tires which gives you more ground clearance (~ 7" vs 12" or there about), and also full cat 1 3pt. You also get folding ROPS with the 2320, a biggie if you try to park it in a garage.. There is some difference between the hydraulics as well.

I love my 2320 (24hp), but compared to my Dads 790 (30hp) I do miss some of the power at times.. But with the 2320 you just go slower..

My package was $17,500 (2320/200CX FEL/62D MMM/Block heater/R4's loaded)

good luck

Whose to say what will be out in a few years - the whole ball game could be changed. Wait until you are ready then

I agree with Duc -- there will be lots of other options in a few years, and the 2000 twenty series could be old news indeed.

But for what it's worth, I purchased a 2320 package within the last month. Sorry, no box blade. My purchase was

2320 with R4s
200CX loader w/ 53" bucket and ballast box
62D mower deck with independent lift kit
54" quick-hitch front blade with tilt angle
filter kit for 50-hour service

My price was $17,430, which I calculate to be roughly 13% below the website prices.

For me, the 2305 was definitely too small, largely because of the low clearance. I have rough terrain and lots of woods and stumps, etc. And the 2520 was clearly a bit more powerful and the direct injection is nice, but the $2k+ extra was just not worth it to me. If I did frequent intensive loader work or had steep hills, I might have bought the 2520. So far I'm very happy with the 2320. The big test will be plowing snow!

There is more 2320 info at this thread.

I agree with Duc and and Joe; if you are set on waiting don't settle on a model now.

On the other hand just about every chore I've done in the past 3 months has been made easier by having a tractor handy. If you have a tractor, you will find uses for it.

My 2320 with a 200CX and 53 inch bucket with a RB2060 rear blade and loaded tires came in at $15,600 before tax. Oh and the dealer delivered it that night (140 mile round trip)bless his soul.:D

Depends on what you are doing but the position control on the 3 point is very useful to me.

I agree with the advise to wait (that's the brain talking - heart says buy one now!).

I have a 2305 with 200CX loader, 62C MMM, iMatch, ballast box, ROPS light guards. I bought it new for $13780. I added a 47 snowblower too - works well.

The non-folding ROPS is not a big deal - I have a standard 7' garage door and it goes in and out just fine. Where you'll notice it is when mowing around trees - but in my opinion the limbs shouldn't be that low anyway so it forces some needed pruning.

Not sure what tasks you'll be tackling with a "house build". The extra clearance of the 2320/2520 might be required. Make no mistake - all 3 of these are VERY capable machines. My 2305 suprises me with it's power!

Good Luck!

One more thing to add to the question on "when to buy"... I have been working with my new 2320 tractor for a week now, and I the other night I found myself positively p;ssed off.

I just finished repairing thousands of feet of driveway, trenched and buried 100' of culvert, repaired eighty feet of rock wall, brush hogged about a mile and a half of trails, and mowed several acres of lawn three times over.

Why was I so mad? Because I recalled all the backbreaking work that I had done over the last few years without this tractor.

All that slow, exhausting, sweaty, no-fun work (a lot of it involving shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows) could have been done SOOO much easier, it is not even worth describing. I am not suggesting that you get in over your head financially, but if you can make it work with the 0% financing, get a tractor sooner than later. Worst comes to worst, their great resale value will keep you from taking a major loss. And it may just make for a sound investment, saving on bills at a chiropractor...

You can dicker on a tractor just like you can dicker on a car. Since JD changed their dealer pricing late last year there is less room to negotiate but I would bet there is still in the neighborhood of 10% to 15% that the dealer could come down and still turn a profit. One thing for sure; they sure won't sell you a tractor at a loss so go and talk to them.:D
