hi. I just replaced the fuel filter on my JD 2240. I bled it at the filter. When bleeding at the fuel injection pump I get fuel out of the bottom bleed screw. After I close that and open the upper bleed screw I can pump all day and get nothing. I know the hand primer pump is working. Any suggestions out there? thanks in advance.

Do you have engine turned over correctly where camshaft lob that operates lift pump is pointing away from lift pump operating lever?? Do you have good fuel flow out of tank?

Also, if I remember correctly. When you change the filter, all you have to do is bleed the air out of the new filter. There was a bleed screw towards the top of the filter base that the big square glass filter was cliped to. I did not have to bleed the line from the filter to the injection pump. Been awhile..... By trying to bleed the injection pump, you may have just filled that line with air now, too...

Hi Jerry
I did bleed the filter using the bleed screw located on the top right side. I was bleeding the injection pump as well because my tractor cranks but will not start. The book recommended bleeding it at the pump as well. The primer pump is working.
Thanks for your input and any suggestions.

There is a bleed screw that you can loosen on inj pump body below top cover that isn't numbered in 1st photo. There's also a small filter(parts key #5) in pump inlet that may need cleaned. You do have fuel cutoff cable pushed in to "run position"???

Would also be good to know if it was running before you changed the filter, or was having problems... My 2240 had problems with a collapsed [ or 'ing ] air intake hose running from the front air filter assy back under the hood. I put a new one in and put a big coil spring inside it so it would not happen again. Things get old.... :( 2240 is a GREAT tractor.

Jim and Jerry,
Thanks much. I will try these today. The tractor would not start prior to this issue. It cranked well but wouldn't fire. I was working my way thru the suggestions in the user manual when I found this problem.

Hello Matt, did you ever resolve this issue. I seem to be having the same issue.

Just an update. I replace the injector pump and got the tractor running. One tip. Use an Allen wrench to reach in from the timing gear cover and turn the pump so that the dowel pin on the injection pump gear will align up with the slot on the pump.
