First let me say this about the quality of my tractor 2210D...Hats off to LMTC folks in Blanchester OH where I bought my unit. Wayne and his guys are a very reputable sort and I got a great deal from him. The tractor is extremely heavy duty and very well built.

I had gotten my tractor stuck in a spring mire and had to retrieve it with another tractor. Had a buddy help by spinning the 2210d tires as I tugged. He enaged the diff lock or hit the brakes with the tires spinning and broke "something" (he heard the pop and then power to the rear ceased). The front axle, PTO, Trans and one rear wheel when depressing the diff lock (right side) works fine. The left rear axle has no power. If I turn the left (broken side by hand, the internals do not seem to rotate the trans gear mass. The right side does engage in the gear mass through the tranny as it should. Obviosuly my problem is in the left side.

What I have done thus far...pulled both fenders, seat, rear lift unit, left brake shoe cover/shoes (which look great). Peering inside the brake housing and from what I can see so far from the top of the differential, I do not see any obvious signs of damage (no broken teeth, metal and the oil looks fine). I need to pull the left axle out as I suspect either spiders or broken axle. Question: Will the axle come away if I remove the rear axle to transmission housing or is there an internal retainer in the diff holding the axle from within the differential? I have ordered a YM 2210D manual from Hoyes but the UPS guy hasn'e been by the house yet. Anyone have an idea/insight on how may I pull the axle?

BTW...I am very mechenically inclined (former ASE and 4x4 hobbyist).

(From the new guy)

Thanks, Wayne

Welcome to TBN!! You have a great dealer and I am sure that your current problem will be worked out. Sorry that you are having problems. I would suspect as you do that the axle itself broke. Poor thing is like a 3 legged dog.

Mike,
Thanks for the response. I have talked with Wayne on several occasions over varied topics (beyond tractors) and he really is a good guy with an interesting background.

My buddy who helped extract the tractor isn't really familiar with them other than driving one from the barn to the pasture. I should have called one of the other local farmers around to lend hand and my outcome would probably have been different. I just needed someone to apply power and steer mine as I pulled on it with another tractor...oh well, hindsight.

I do think it an axle and if so, hope I can fish out the broken stub in the diff.

My 2020 has a lock ring on the inside that holds the axle in. I had to take the pto cluster out in order to get the snap ring off to release the axle. I then had take the 3ph top off in order to get the levers lined back up when putting the cluster back in.

If yours is like mine you won't be able to fish the broken piece out until you take the lock ring off.

Thinking back I think my axles are 1 1/2 inches in diameter, don't seem like that would be the weakest part, but you never know.

Good Luck.
