JD 2210
I stumbled across this, notice the backhoe bucket is mounted BACKWARDS! the price for this 2210 with loader and woods backhoe is $2900 -two thousand nine hundred- does anyone think this might be stolen???? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Link

MikePA: Please review your message before posting it. It's simple not to create a long link that widens the entire thread. Just insert a descriptive word or two between the {url=http://whatever}Enter words here{/url} instead of the entire URL. Replace parentheses {} with square brackets in previous example. Alternatively, if you use the Instant Markup language URL link, the first prompt is for the URL. The second prompt is for a description. Do not simply paste in the URL again. Type a short description of the link.

Probably is a scam. This unit was listed for a sale a couple weeks ago from JD Equipment in Ohio. Even sounds bad with the crazy conditions... email me first and all that.

The many bogus tractor deals on ebay are not for stolen merchandise. The listed tractors don't exist at all. What is stolen are the photos and descriptions of the tractors often from real earlier ebay listings. The listings are completely bogus. Virtually any ebay listing where you are instructed to call the lister before bidding can be assumed to be fraudulent.

I would say it was a scam. When I had my JD4200 for sale on ebay a few months ago, somebody copied my pictures and my description of the tractor, and changed the year of manufacturing. They posted it for $5000.00 no reserve. These people had a UK location, and an Iowa Location. This hurt because my tractor was on Ebay, and the same tractor with same pictures was on at the same time for $5000.00 No Reserve. It confused people, because potential buyers didn't know who to trust. Some people contacted the other crooks and they told them to mail out a certified check and the tractor was theirs... Thank god nobody actually went through with this too good to be true scheme.

Ditto on what islandtractor said.
There have been many ( dozens ) of ebay tractor scams in the past few months. You'll notice that sometimes the scam item will be listed by a reputable seller with good feedback. This is due to the seller's account being hijacked. You will usually see where the auction page says not to use the "ask seller a question" link, but rather to send correspondence to email x.
If it looks too good to be true, it usually is. Just look out for the email thing I just described, also, if you ever pay a seller with escrow, make sure YOU pick the escrow company and go to their web page on your own, not through a link provided by the seller! Anyone with an active ebay account knows about the emails you get that look to be from ebay but are from a scammer. NEVER click on a link in an email unless you know the sender personally. Ebay will NEVER ask you to click on a link in one of their emails. That is how an account get hijacked!

I spotted such a tractor scam a couple of months back.
It showed the location as about 1 hr from me so (using a yahoo addy) I followed up on it.
Bidding became by invitation only and later after auction ended I was asked if still interested and if so to make an offer as, supposidly, the the winner backed off.
I played him a bit thinking that I'd turn this around into a sting operation.
Remember all emails were via a yahoo addy, so I felt safe.

Well the Feds were not interested and said 'call back Mon 9-5'
The locals said 'what's ebay'
The province (state) said 'you have to go to your local police'
And so on and so on.

Most just plain laughed, saying this is not like on TV.

They really care!

Turns out that here in Canada 'Phone Busters' handles that sort of thing and are really only interested in 'Major events'.
Example given was an organized ring that would run (successfully) maybe a doz or so tractor scams a month and provided that it was drug linked.

I concluded that the safest 'fast money' was phony tractor auctions and western union payement to a false name.

The explanation was 'due the high costs of investigation due to travel, distance and juristictions ' that they just could not afford to do more than tabulate the losses.

Sleep well, we are well protected.

Going 5 mph over limit, quasi stop and parking in handicapped zone: that they do well handing out tickets.

Wow, that explains the proliferation. I sell tractors on ebay and several people have recently called to ask about second chance offers on tractors that I had sold and closed. seems the crooks are sending an official looking ebay notice but with separate email address from my listing. FOr this reason I always post my address and phone number on the listing. I do wonder if anyone would jump. one deal was about 1/3 dealer cost. I told the guy that called I would buy all I could find at that price. Many of these crooks play against the mark's own greed, trygint to get something for nothing. Like the widow of the fomer governor of some little known african country who needs help embezzling a few million from her government, 'just claim to be the rightful heir", some people probably deserve what they get.... the sad part is enough must get away with it to make it worth continuously trying...

you guys should have seen what i went rhough on ebay with a JD used 757 zero turn mower last summer... guy had the auction end for $6100 USED, way too much for 400hrs i belive especially off ebay, anyway, he contacted me and said hed take the $2950 i had make my bid at and was outbid, me thinking thats odd... anyway, i figured id play this guy and see where he goes. He then said he was in some other country but would handle ALL shipping.

So i said ok, ill pay soon as the guy shows up, well he says its shipped, please western union me money, i said no i need a tracking number, so he gets me one to some international shipping bogus site. # works and shows tracking progress...

Now, this guy had his own website setup through tucows in CA, entering bogus shipping information defrauding buyers out of thinking there is actually something being shipped to them, my mower at 1120lbs in weight.... Anyway, wednesday morning 8am, no driver shows up, i leave for work anyway, the guy emails me back and forth starts cursing that i did not pay in time, he will cancel shipment, when it supposedly came from LONDON now lol, probably costsed $3k to ship /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

So he says he will contact the autority for my problem and that was that... I filed a incident report with the FBI about it since im sure im not the only person he is trying to do this to. Sucks, i wanted that thing for 3k but oh well, knew it wasnt real sort of from day 1.

These are savey internet thieves. I am a powerseller and have been on eBay for over 4 years. I report at least 10 of these fraudulant ads every day just on John Deere stuff I find. Quite often it is the same tractors I report every day and often I report the same tractor 2 or 3 times in the same day.

Anything with the very low too good to be true buy now price from a seller who usually has no or low feedback telling you not to use the contact seller and instead use an email address listed in the ad as well as Free world wide shipping on a 24 hr or 3 day listing is B.S. Another big tipoff is restricted bidders on the preapproved list or having the auctions usernames private so you can't see who is bidding.
