I have a 2210 and the MFWD axle has become real noisy when operating with the FWD engaged. Any other owners have similar problems? It is currently at the dealers, the axles and front differential are disassembled, everything appears fine so far. Any experiences by others??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have had my 2210 for about a year, and have always noticed more "noise" when in 4WD, but always wrote it off as more gearing is working. It also makes a noted difference in the "handling" of the tractor when turning, especially on hard surfaces, but I always felt that was also natural. I'll be curious if you find anything wrong.....

Yes that is natural. I just hope your not doing a lot of turning on hard surfaces such as concrete, asphault, etc.

I don't notice any difference in noise level with the MFWD engaged or not. There is a marked difference in turning radius and as mentioned on hard surfaces there is some noise from the tires. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

My 2210 does the same thing. Seems to get a little quieter once the front axle lube warms up. I assume it's normal gear noise.

Thank you all for the replies. As soon as I get an answer from the dealer and deere I will follow up with the "fix"

fullpull,

I think your original post said it all. "I have a 2210 and the MFWD axle has BECOME real noisy when operating with the FWD engaged". The key word here is become, intimating that something has changed.

Good luck with the fix.

I had the front axle on my 4100 apart to fix a seal. I put it together slightly wrong with one of the thrust washers in the wrong position. It changed the clearances enough that one of the bevel gears was interfering and real noisy. I knew it wasn't right, took it apart again, and after a couple of trys, figured out what was wrong, swapped the parts to the correct location, and now it spins smooth as slik.

Lift the front of the tractor up (FEL come sin handy for this) and with the MFWD disengaged, it should be fairly easy to spin the front wheels with little or no noise.

Well,it seems that the dealer will replace the front axle's differential as advised by his service connection at Deere. They say this is quite rare on these, but that the replacement of the differential will solve the noise issue. The thrust washers backing up the spider gears are suspected of causing the problem. I am eager to try it once it has been reassembled since I plan on adding a loader to it! Great service from my dealer!!!
