Last night while blowing snow my unit like others started clanking and making noise. The auger (in the shoot) was clanking against the front of the housing. So tonight I pulled things apart just a bit to get a little more aquatinted with my blower  . I attached a pic that shows a couple bolts that are there to adjust how far forward or back the 2nd stage auger sits in the housing. The fix turned out simple. The interior auger had slid forward just enough to start clanking against the front of the housing. I loosened the two bolts, re-adjusted and tighten everything up. As quite now as before. But needless to say, it was NOISY. I also tinkered with u-joint alignments, ect.... and I can't say enough... it makes a big difference as well as another poster pointed out to me. I attached a couple short videos so you can hear how quite the blower actually is. In the videos you'll barely hear the blower kick on and off over the tractor. If I get time I will run the blower with the u-joints not aligned properly so others can hear the noise difference as well. But all and all, I think my unit is pretty quite... I sure wish we could find fix for those who are having problems... :( :) I ran two units on my tractor and both ran equally quiet or noisy depending on whether everything was set up correctly. It shouldn't be be so tedious... but with the angle we're given on these blowers, I'm afraid we need to be sure everything's just about perfectly set up.

Shawk,

Maybe you're onto the fix so many are in search of. BTW, what is that white stuff? :)

I wish it were a fix for these guys... but it seems to simple.

The "white stuff" won't go away... we were hammered with rain/ice and a little snow (4-5") last week. No utilities in our neighborhood for about 3 days. :( Could have been much worse though. I still have clients that are without.

When are you off to the promise land (FL)? Warm weather is in our forecast for the coming week.... our season is just around the corner now.

Btw... in the video I'm running the blower through a nasty snow/ice combo we got last week. So the ice is the little extra noise you'll hear chunking through the blower... not the blower.

Shawk,
The bracket in your picture is the one giving me so many problems. The first time it came loose I went through 4 shear bolts before I realized the fan was sliding back and forth. Everytime it would move forward it would shear the bolt. Once I realized what was happening I cleaned the shaft, repositioned it and loctited it with Loctite 680, and tightned up all the setscrews. This was with about 4 hours on the blower when it was new.
The next time I used it everything came loose again so I called the dealer. They replaced the shaft and the gearbox which lasted about 8 hours of blowing before everything came loose again. This time the dealer drilled the shaft, put longer setscrews in with jam nuts to keep them tight, and double nuted the shear bolt. That "fix" lasted a bit longer. It took about 12 hours of blowing before everything came loose again yesterday. On Monday I am going to talk to the dealer and find out how they are going to make this right.

Shawk,

We leave on Saturday the 10th! I'm taking one of my favorite nephews with the goal to spoil the heck out of him :) I can't wait!

Interesting... keep us posted on the outcome. Thanks for the reply...

We have used this solution successfully to prevent
that impellar (fan) from moving forward on the shaft.

Grainger Industrial Supply

My own unit came forward last week, and I cannot get
one of the setscrews loose so I can re-loctite it.. so I
am going to put one of these collars on to get
me thru the rest of the winter,, then in warmer weather
I will get that other setscrew out and re assemble... but
i am still going to keep this collar on.. added insurance.

Dutch

Installed the same split collar 3 weeks ago hoping it does the trick, can't hurt.
