2164 with briggs and stratton not charging battery

New to forum have a 2000 2164 that will not keep battery charged, battery is new,regulator changed. Can anyone tell me if they have seen electric clutch or
charging issues to look for that would keep from charging

It could be helpful to know what specific engine model /type you have as well as the colors of the charging system wires. Briggs engines that use a separate regulator have a stator under the flywheel. The stator sends AC current to the regulator. Usually ~ 30 VAC That would be the next check as well as knowing that you have 12 Volts to the regulator- which would tell you that the power can at least get to the battery.

To do any meaningful trouble shooting without wasting money on unnecessary new parts and lots of your time you need a cheap multi meter.

Amazon has some for around $10. Local business likely have similar.

Check battery voltage before starting and after about 10 minutes of running and then tell us the numbers. Engine should be running wide open.

Tell me the spec's of your new battery. Often owners buy cheap batteries and there are not enough cranking amps for an older tractor making the battery seem like it is not charged.

I dont see electric clutch being responsible for a dead battery if it is working properly otherwise.
