It's been quite the trip, but finally some daylight.
I had taken it back to the dealer because it was suddenly dying while I was mowing. It would be running fine, then act like you've shut off a fuel valve. Let it sit a bit & it will start & run fine for a bit longer.
It first occurred after 3 hours hard running in high heat. Later occurrences happened progressively sooner, 2 hours, 1 hour. The last time it was 30 minutes or so. Figured it's happening quick enough the JD techs should be able to reproduce it, so I took it in. (BTW, they finally had the replacement voltage regulator to do the recall fix)
After a couple of days, they couldn't reproduce the problem even after mowing several acres out back & burning half a tank in the process.
I picked it up, but they left the ticket open so I could see if the problem had just gone away before settling up for the diagnostic fees.
I mowed around the house, no issue during that 45 minutes, but it reoccured after two hours cutting out at the acreage. This time I recorded it on video with my phone. After restarting I caught it happening again several times as I headed back to the trailer. I went straight back to them from the acreage & played the recordings. They agreed it was a fuel starvation shutdown and took the mower back to the shop.
Two days later, they just called to let me know they had an answer & would be doing a warranty fix. They found a lot of plastic debris clogging the fuel system.
They will be replacing the fuel tank & fuel lines and thoroughly cleaning the carburetor.
