That's interesting, 2001 A Space Odyssey was just on one of the movie channels last week.
Hadn't seen it in years and watched it all the way through.

P.S. if the "monolith" is made of metal, then it isn't a monolith (big rock).

It probably was put there last summer by some extraterrestrial life form. When they decode the writings it will say "Beam me up Scottie, there's no intelligent life down here."
