While replacing the plastic trans cooling fan the needles fell out of the u-joint that needs to be removed to access fan replacement. I am trying to find a replacement u-joint On the yanmar parts store it looks like you have to buy the whole driveshaft for 325 bucks I hope not I have the measurements but cant find a standard size to match I thought for sure yanmar would sell the u-joint separate from the whole driveshaft assembly Anyone had this issue when replacing the trans cooling fan or needed to replace u-joint ? Thanks

I now have searched for the cross with the bearings , which is the most I need and even the needles themselves which I have measured with a micrometer as close as I know how I am uploading some pics of the u-joint and the parts book breakdown from buyyanmar which doesn't show the joint cross as a replacement part only the entire 18" shaft for 385 dollars plus tax and shipping so maybe 450 total All I really need is 10 needles worth about 5 bucks The dimensions are 18 mm cap dia x 47 mm length from cap top to cap top The U-joint is an outside lock type I believe with the snap ring inside the end of the yoke. The needles measure 1.35 x 7.62 mm The only identifying mark on the cross is QC which is shown in the pic
I had wrist fusion surgery several months ago so my wrist doesent work like it used to when I was pulling out the cap my wrist malfunctioned and I dropped the cap in deep crushed stone No matter how strong my magnet or how big an area or time spent I am about 8 needles short to put back together my perfectly fine driveshaft and a t this point my only option it seems is a 450 dollar shaft replacement Kinda sick inside about it Thanks for any help Hard to believe yanmar doesn't sell them as a wear part

I doubt you'll ever find just the needles as those don't usually sell as separate item.
Worst case scenario, you buy a new U-joint, since you know the dimensions. Much cheaper than the entire assembly. In that size, maybe $20 or $30? Just a guess.
Another option, that I've done in the past caused by also losing some needles, is to find a needle roller bearing with the right size needles and pull the the needles out as needed. This is the cheaper option but in the bearing catalogues, they don't usually list the diameter of the needles, so finding the right one might be tricky.
In my case, I got lucky and happen to have some needle roller bearings in stock just that happen to work out.

I have spent several hours searching the net for the u-joint cross with the dimensions I have just posted I think Yanmar maybe makes their own since they make the whole drive train front to back They seem to have made them an odd size so you cant just replace them but need to buy the whole shaft for 385 plus bucks I am not liking the thought that they would do that

Anything here: https://www.moog-suspension-parts.com/universal-joints-ujoints.asp. I know a bike I had, sells the U joint for a ridiculous price, you can get one for a 4 wheeler for 1/10 the price.

I just google "18x47 u joint" and found various options.

Wow both of you guys have great solutions Both of you found what I need in two different places I can't thank you enough I may have to clean out the yoke with a small stone honing tool I have from engine rebuild years ago because it mics 17.8mm but that is easy enough The length is perfect You think you have tried everything and sometimes a second or third person really helps This was my first post and I am so grateful and enthused to be part of the forum I hope I can help someone someday Thanks again for your time and research Guess we can close this one ! I must have been to specific in my search saying 17.8 mm x 47 when I searched That tiny difference could even be in wear on the original or micrometer angle etc I did use 2 micrometers One good old Starrett dial type always accurate and a newer plastic digital micrometer that reads both inches and mm I will always trust the quality Starrett and convert using an online calculator the most Thanks one more time
