2018 JD 1025R
Hello gentleman,

I was mowing today with my 1025R. I went to back up (while holding my PTO/RIO switch down) and my deck shut of and I couldn't get it to restart. I had already mowed for an hour with it before this happened. I didn't have any codes show up on my display, and letting it sit and cool down didn't help. My machine is an early 2018 1025R (actually build in late 2017). It has the yellow "rocker" style PTO switch not the push/pull knob. The rocker switch should have a "click" feel to it when you push it into the (PTO) "on" or "off" position (I forget which it is). My switch doesn't have that "click" feel to it anymore. The orange light doesn't light up now either when I try to turn the PTO switch on. Has anyone else had this happen to their machine? If so could you fix it yourself, or was it a dealer required fix. Thanks for any information. Also it does not matter Which position the PTO level is set, on neither PTO (mid or rear) will turn on.

Sorry Moved to a more proper tread topic.

If your switch quit working and used to "click" but now doesn't it certainly could be the switch itself. I won't say they constantly go bad but they do fail once in a while. They are fairly easy to replace as they just pop out but you probably have to dig into the cowl. Since your tractor is under warranty I would be hesitant to tear into it yourself.

JD wants almost $50 for the switch so it's probably a good idea to get it replaced under warranty by the dealer. That way just in case it's something else you are still covered.

Have you checked....for a blow fuse? Was the clicking sound you were hearing a relay being energized?

Hello Gator6x4

Yeah, I checked all of my fuses. They are fine. I wasn't hearing a clicking sound. The switch has a "detent", or the feel of clicking into position (on or off). It does not have that "detent" or feel of clicking into position. It just springs back into place. If you press a rocker switch it usually will click into one position or another (like "on" and "off"); mine doesn't do that now, but it did.

Well, I dropped by my John Deere Dealership today and they had a new PTO rocker switch for me. They had it shipped in from Atlanta over the weekend. Here is a couple of pics of the new switch installed and the old one taken out.

I have to take the bad switch back to the dealer since it is bad and still under warranty. We just carefully slide the blade of a utility knife under the plastic surround of the switch and popped it out, unplugged in bad switch, plugged the new one into the receiving socket, and popped it back into the dash panel. A one minute fix.
