A little background: In October 2016 I got a quote from a New Holland dealer for a 54D CVT tractor and loader to replace the TC45D I was selling. On May 1, 2017 I stopped by the same dealership to get the quote updated. I was a bit surprised when the price increased by about $3500. Reason given: The New Holland incentive program changed. I can't be positive, but I think the tractor I looked at is the very same one I saw last Fall, a 2016 year model. When I pointed out the tractor was now a 2016 carryover model the salesman said the warranty doesn't start until the tractor is sold, it's exactly the same as the 2017's, etc. and the pricing didn't change. I tried to point out that everything else being equal, a 2017 tractor is always going to be worth more than a 2016, but got nowhere. I then left the dealership without further negotiations.
I also have been talking to a CI dealer about the Farmall 55C CVT, which so far as I can tell is exactly the same tractor as the New Holland 54D, with red paint instead of blue. He quoted a 2017 55C equipped exactly same as the New Holland, but was about $3500 more than the updated New Holland price. I am also going to buy some new implements to replace the ones sold with my old tractor, so I believe the CI dealer will give me a better price when I start negotiations. The question then becomes, how much more is a 2017 model worth vs a 2016? What say ye? Thanks, Vic
