It's getting serious. Dodge and Ford are already at 30,000# so this is nothing too surprising. I think they were at 18,000# bumper pull and payloads at or near 3 tons.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out when the new tow rating calculations come out conforming to the standards set forth.

No kidding.

Yes, I think the F-450 was the previous conventional towing leader at 18.5K#, Dodge was at 17.5K#. I'm not sure if the new 2014 Ram 3500 has an increased conventional tow rating or not. I couldn't find that on their website. Just their shameless plugging of the 37,500 GCWR.

I'm interested to see this new hitch design GM has developed to get up to 19K. That's just wild.

It's always good to have a heavy hitch but for some reason I wouldn't want to haul a 19000# bumper pull trailer. I'm surprised that they haven't bumped up the output of the Duramax. Nice truck, though. You really won't go wrong with any truck you choose from GM, Ford or Ram, they all seem to have basically the same features. It will be interesting to see the capacities of the new '15 F-450 pickup.

I may have missed this in the past year or two, as I haven't really been following HD trucks that much... but do Ford and Ram both have the engine braking features the new Duramax does on the 2015 models? (optional, of course)

Yes. Ford has also had the trailer sway control for 5 years or so. Not sure about Dodge and the trailer sway control.

As for heavy conventional pulling we do it weekly in the boating world. My uncles boat is a 2003 and is 25,000#. I have pulled it with SRW F350's since day one 100 miles or so a year.

I pull 16,000# with my 06 F350 SRW 5,000 miles or more a year.

+1 The most tag trailer weight I pull is about 17000lbs but I do it a lot, last year was about 15-20 40 mile trips. The tractor with trailer can be anywhere from 11500 to 14500 depending on what implements are on it. At 11500 the 1/2 ton will get used in the summer but the F250 gets it most of the time. The gooseneck trailer got used 1 time last year to haul 15000 lbs [to much for my tag trailer]. CJ

+2. Iget close to 16k bumper pull once a week on a SRW F-250. 19k on a dually should be no problem, certainly not as nice to pull as a gooseneck, but no problem for these new trucks.

Used to haul 40 ton coast to coast over two mountain ranges with a 318 Detroit. How is a 420HP pickup going to handle 13 ton?

Could not agree more.
I have said this for years, a 27,000lb tractor happily pulls 130,000lbs here in Michigan. Why would you think a 7600lb pickup could not pull 15000lbs properly set up? Most of the issues come from people pulling stuff with no brakes or ones that have problems driving a car let alone a loaded truck. CJ
