/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gifCan someone help? I was doing some work with my 2015 gear drive 4wd and discovered that the fill plug from the front axle on the right hand side is missing. I don't even know what to look for if I did find it. Can someone tell me what it is supposed to look like? Is it threaded? I couldn't feel any threads in the hole. Is there a substitute plug available? Is it safe to drive it without a plug? Any help is greatly appreciated. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Thanks,
Sam

Sam put a wine cork in it until you get a new one from your dealer /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's a rubber press fit type. Not unlike the HST fill tube cap. The cork would work!

/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gifThanks guys. I had actually thought of a cork, but didn't want to try that without asking about it first. Appreciate the help.
Thanks,
Sam

SamatGA,

As you've already learned the axil plug is a rubber push in type plug. The Mahindra part number on that plug is 31501016000, and you should be able to get one from your dealer. If not call me and I would be happy to sell you one.

So here's a question: Why is is just a rubber plug? Why not a threaded cap? Is it supposed to pop out if the pressure inside the axle is too great?

What's the reasoning for it?

I think the reasoning for it is that it's much cheaper to drill a hole and plug it as opposed to thread ,cleanup, etc. Really not alot of pressure built up there so they save some steps on the assembly line.

Exactly the same think happened to me yesterday, and a synthetic wine cork was perfect. In fact, I can't see replacing it with the factory part since the cork seems to fit securely, apparently the original isn't that secure.
There was plenty of oil still in there, and I don't think it was off more than an hour, but I'm sure some dust got in there. Is this cause to drain and replace?
Thanks for your help.
