Diesel will be a tough sell for me.

That is an interesting looking frame, is it partial unibody?

I've never been a fan of odd cylinder gas engines (loud annoying exhaust tones at certain RPMs, rough idle, poor fuel mileage, etc...). I'm curious how a 5 cylinder diesel will be. I am certainly a huge fan of inline engines especially for diesel so it will be interesting to see how this mini-Powerstroke works out. Is this a Ford designed/built engine? I think that I5 2.3l diesel will be too small for the F150.

I didn't see but is this FWD only like the RAM Promaster?

I like the looks of it and having the fuel filler on the cab vs the bed makes it much easier for bed fitters.

I see a differential and drive shaft. RWD

This diesel is 3.2 liter so I don't know about the 2.3.

Same here. The inline in the Trailblazer and Canyon or whatever that little GM truck was called never impressed me one bit and it seems I see the at the repair shop across the street from my office. They were popular in the high end imports and seemed to fair a little better.

Inline diesel engines seem to shine. Most all of us have a small tractor with a 3 cylinder diesel. I was looking at a 38 hp tractor about 10 years ago and they offered two diesel engines, a 3 or 4 cylinder. 9 out of 10 recommended getting the 3 cylinder for its smoothness.

The DOHC inline 5 in the Volvo cars (850, S70, V70, XC70, S40, V40, S60, S80, XC90, etc) is a very smooth and fairly fuel efficient engine in both the turbo and non-turbo variants.

The article says "Ford Transit: Chassis cab and cutaway models employ a unique uni-ladder construction, combining a unibody cab with rear frame rails. The chassis cab and cutaway versions feature boron steel for stiffness. The frame rails underpin 100 percent of the cab area. (03/04/2013)"

There's a driveshaft on the cab-chassis but what about the unibody van layout? That's what I was asking about.

I thought I read 2.3l, my bad. Curious what the numbers will be.

The GMC Canyon has a I5 3.7l, we have a few runner trucks around here at the shop. Idle is rough, fuel mileage sucks, but peppy as any small V8 (I haven't towed with one) and they all have over 200k with no engine work but two had the exhaust manifold replaced. I hate that deep 3k rpm droan...

As for diesel tractors, I have a 3 cylinder and it's far from smooth. The much larger 4 cylinder diesels are 10x smoother...

Still not as smooth as a 4 cylinder or efficient either...

The Trailblazers have inline 6's not 5's...My mom has a 2002 TB it has not needed on mechanical repair beyond maintenance and cleaning the front ABS sensors. It runs strong for a straight 6. My neighbor has one as well and it is also trouble free.

My wife's 2006 H3 is a 5 cyl with 55k. The motor has never been touched. Runs like a clock...No race car, but it does ok..No rough running at idle or WOT.

Not sure about you repair/reliability statements. Is the anti-GM thing leaking out again?
