2013 X500 engine ticking sound?

I just purchased a 2013 X500. I have 7 hrs on it so far. It works great, starts easily and runs smooth. The only thing out of the ordinary is the engine makes a sort of ticking sound like a valve tick or something. If the engine didn't run so darn quiet I would probably never notice it. My old JD 175 Hydro had a single cylinder Kawasaki engine and I never noticed it ticking.

Just curious if other X500 owners notice a similar ticking when the engine is running.

Have you adjusted the valves? It is really easy, just be careful to not rip the gasket when removing the valve cover. Need a feeler gauge and basic wrench, screwdriver. I think you have the FH680V motor and you can google Kawasaki FH680V 23hp Valve Adjustment. Just confirm I was correct on the motor.

My 2012 X500 does not tick. Have you checked the oil level? Is the oil what JD recommends? Could be the valves but seems a new mower wouldn't be out of adjustment. Might be a good idea to have the JD dealer check it out. Should still be under warranty.

That is a good point, I missed that it was under warranty. I have two of them, I can just barely hear a tick...Take it in for a check up.

Yes, oil is full-up. I have 10 hrs on the tractor now and did the 8hr oil change and filter. The ticking is mostly noticeable when sitting idling. Under load it seems quiet. The grass is still trying to wake up here so the first 10 hrs of life has been spent pulling the lawn roller, pulling the spreader, spraying with the 25-gal mounted sprayer, and pulling around the 17P cart. I hope one of these days I get to try out the mower deck.
