Good morning everyone!!

So my father-in-law has decided to upgrade tractors, and has found a 2013 New Holland T4.75 that he is pulling the trigger on. This tractor has 988hrs on it, and was a one owner, owned by a older gentleman that took exceptionally good care of it. It has the cab with air ride seat, buddy seat, etc. Also has a 655TL loader on it. The interior still looks brand new. I am going to post up a couple questions regarding this particular tractor, as I've never owned a New Holland in the past.

1) This tractor has 2 sets of SCV's on the rear. Does anyone know if these have the float option on them, as if you push the SCV lever all the way forward, does it lock that circuit in float?

2) How big of a batwing mower could this tractor handle/pull? We will be mowing very flat pastures that horses graze on, and we never let the grass/weeds get very high. I called a couple different New Holland dealers, and they all indicated that it should be no problem putting a 15' batwing behind this tractor.

3) The 655TL loader they say is quick attach, and also has the skid steer quick attach style hookups on the front. Are the loaders pretty easy to get on/off these tractors? I tried finding a video tutorial on YouTube of this process, but didn't have much luck. We would want to pull the loader off the tractor in the summer while we are mowing, etc. The loader will primarily be used for feeding round bales to the pastures, and loading round bales on the trailers in the field in the summer after the hay we buy is baled.

4) I saw in the pictures, there is a provision in the cab to add a 3rd SCV lever. Does anyone know what all is exactly needed parts wise to do this? I am a very mechanical guy, and wouldn't have a problem doing this work if it were decided to go that route.

5) I also see that some of these tractors come with a 3rd function on the loader for using a grapple, etc. I'm 99% sure this one doesn't have it factor installed. As the #4 question stated, what all would be needed for this if we decide we want to install it. I found the WR Long kit, the VK20, but didn't know if there was a better option.

6) Finally, if the tractor doesn't have a manual with it, which I am hoping it does, is there a good place to source a manual. I'd like a manual for both the tractor and the 655TL loader.

Thanks to everyone in advance for possibly helping me out with all these questions,

Kyle

1. Yes to float
2. Yes to batwing, you may have to feather it as you engage the pot. Mine pulls a JD HX15
3. Loader is not hard to remove
4. I had the 3scv installed, simple and easy for most mechanically inclined.
5. I am adding the WRLong to mine this fall, so it looks easy enough.

Good tractor has a few foibles like most, but should be worked out by now with the hours you indicated. We have JDs and a Branson also. I like my T4’ as much as the JDs the Branson was not a great deal.
Ballast is your friend on the T4 it’s really a light tractor, with a very powerful motor and hydro system. Filter maintenance is a $$&&! So change all at once and pull the loader! Enjoy your tractor.

Put max ballast on the rear. Mine has 2 ballast rings per side and fluid in the tubes. The radio sux balls in that thing. Other than that, be careful with the park function in the range gear box. I broke my pin (had it in park on a steep incline) and it went through the gears. This tractor has no emergency / park brake, not here in North America. The European ones have the park brake installed. Other than that, it’s a good tractor.

Thanks to everyone in advance for possibly helping me out with all these questions,

Regarding question 1, Yes.

I won't comment on question 2 because I have no experience with batwings and besides the slope of the land and the height of the grass affect the answer.

Regarding question 3, New Holland has a separate manual for their loaders so you can check with them. They will give you the instructions for your loader. You might be able to find a used one on ebay or at bookstores that specialize in service manuals. I have a euro mount on my TD95D and it is easy to change implements. I would think the skid type would also be ez.

Can't answer 4.

Regarding 5, their is provision for mounting a third and function valve on the loader and I bought a kit from New Holland for about $850 for mine. I prefer to buy these kits that are designed by the loader manufacturer because they are complete and can be installed with a minimum effort and you don't have to run around finding adapters, etc to complete the installation

Regarding question 5, Again New Holland has the the owners manual and the service manual (hard copy and digital) and they can also be found on enay, etc.

I wanted to comment here as I have a T4.75 deluxe of similar vintage to the OP. In my mind the jury is still out on the tractor. I have about 750 hours on mine, bought it with 550 hours a few years ago. I think the tractor is generally mechanically sound, and the 655 loader is a beast and heavier than the loaders they sell with the new tractors. I have an electric over hydraulic third function I use mostly with a grapple that works great - installed by the dealer. The joy stick has the buttons. Having a cab and AC is great! My biggest complaint is with the quality of assembly and parts in some areas. I have had cable/control problems with the loader, range transmission, parking brake engagement, and most recently the PTO. Also the fuel sender is wonky and quits working after about ten minutes. Just the other day, a hose popped off the oil cooler and dumped most of the hyd fluid before I noticed - this hose was held on with a hose clamp and a very bad design. These problems occur in the middle of jobs (duh) but it is a PIA to be in a remote field and have to walk home. The tractor is hard to work on with many areas not very accessible. I'm not sure how exactly to replace the PTO engagement cable which snakes its way from the cab around the differential, over the transmission and is connected under the cab behind the fuel tank. The PTO would not disengage, which was a little disconcerting. Several of these issues also involve the start safety interlocks so the tractor will not start to get it back to the shop. I have spent quite a number of hours and $$$ repairing this tractor, and guess I have quite a few hours more in the shop to work through all of these things but I'm not looking forward to it; would rather be doing what I need to be doing! All the manuals I have found suck by the way. No or little theory of operation and very incomplete. Yes I have the shop manual and its not much different from the operators manual. The online parts diagrams are the best source of information but they are what they are too.
