2011 X749
Hi there Im new to the forum but have been using it to do a lot of research. I have been looking to buy a new mower and had my eyes on the X749 as my dream machine. I love everything about it except 2 things 1 the price and 2 no 7 iron deck. I really wanted a 7 iron but decided aws was more important. I will be using this mainly for mowing and snowplowing. I wasn't really looking to buy for another 1-2 years until I came across this deal I feel like I got a steal of a deal and jumped on it. I picked up a 2011 with only 41 hours for $8,500!!! I had to go from WI to NJ to pick it up but for the money I think I saved it is worth it. I had my dad who is retired make the drive out for me to get it and just got the call from him this afternoon saying he has the tractor and told me Im going to be very happy with it he says it looks brand new, only blemishes he said are a couple scratches on the mower deck (62") he said the tractor itself is flawless. He also said it has a orthopedic/lumbar seat on it with arm rest he said it drives like a cadillac. I cant wait till he gets this mower home so I can finally see it for my self. Am I crazy for going 900+ miles one way for this deal? Just want to see if you guys think I got as good of a deal as I believe I did. I will post pictures when my dad gets here with it which will probably be Wed. :D

One more question. My old mower is a 2002 John Deere GT235 with a 48" deck and a snow blower I believe it is a 47" or 48" blower. I will be looking to sell my old set up. Any idea what it is worth roughly? It does not have a hour meter so Im not sure how many hours are on it but everything is in good shape it just has normal scratches from branches but no big scratches or damage. Any ideas on a good starting point. The snowblower is only got 4 seasons on it.

Sounds like you got a great deal on the new mower, I know I paid alot more than that for mine.

About your used mower, look up the listings on the used sites to get a comparable price for your unit. The buyer/seller role is reversed now so don't expect the buyers to pay an exhorbitant amount for your old mower. These buyers will be looking for a good deal just as you were when shopping.

Jenkinsph- I see you have a DR 3 pt chipper. That is something I would like to add in the future. Do you run that with you X749? if so what are your thoughts on it. Will the Dr chipper really handle 4" wood and does it feed good, clog up at all, is it to much for the tractor? Thanks in advance

I got the DR chipper in a package deal with the MX6, Howard tiller all new for $3000 from my brother who opted out on buying his own tractor.. It works okay but the throat is smaller than I would like. Works well with branches that aren't too crooked. And yes I use it with the x749 with no problems. I understand that the newer model has a slightly larger throat which would be a plus. Mine will handle 3" branches and is a 2005 model. Running a fairly straight branch of this size doesn't seem to be a problem for the chipper or the tractor but it isn't a speed demon either.

If I were buying one straight out I would buy something larger with self feed roller and larger throat just so the branches would feed thru easier, there pretty knarly in my area.

Congrats! That was a heck of a deal! Sounds like it's got the "SE" seat on it and you'll love it.

Well I finally got it home. I got to play around with it a little bit today and I love it so far. I still can't believe that someone would buy this tractor for over 14k in August and sell it in October for $8,500. Im glad he did though. What a tractor. Snow blower is next. Then a bagger. I don't need the bagger till next summer but whats everyone's thoughts/opinions on the JD baggers?

Looks real good and an unbelieveable low price, hope you checked with Deere to make sure it is cleared and paid for.

I like the seat too, I was using my 749 to rake on a steep slope Saturday and could have used those armrests to help stay in the seat.

By way of introduction, my name is Mike - a lifelong John Deere fan. Cant get it out of my blood. Will probably be buried sitting on a tractor. Its a great escape from the routine of the daily job to get outside & play with big boy toys.
So, I've been looking for a used 54" blower ever since they came out for my x475 AWS. Hard to find. People only sell them with their tractor. The only other tractor I'd buy would be another AWS, this time with 4WD. That's never the tractor being sold with a 54' blower, so I'm always out of luck. Is the x749 the only AWS 4WD choice with John Deere? What was the 1st year the 4WD AWS models came out? A while back i asked if there was such a machine & i was told no. As of now i know that either wasn't true, or has changed.

Gator800r - how did you find your x749? I'm in WI also and would be willing to drive for a deal like that also - even without a blower. If anyone out there comes across another deal like that, please let me know! (and of course for the 54' JD blower also)
Thanks everyone.
