Like most newbies, I come begging answers to a few questions, but it's more polite to offer a quick intro first.
My wife and I live on 26 acres in Southern Michigan. We raise chickens and produce maple syrup here.
Our tractor, a 2009 New Holland T1510 w/FEL sees tons of use keeping our 2100 ft driveway clear of snow in the winter, moving mountains of chicken poop, brush hogging, post hole drilling, hauling firewood, and during the sugaring season, dragging a trailer with a 65 gallon sap collection tank through a foot or more of snow along trails through the woodlot. It's done everything I've asked of it, and seems well suited to the tasks I give it.
The problem is with the 4x4. There is a loud squeal coming from the front end when the 4x4 is engaged. In warmer weather I'll get the squeal for the first hundred feet or so, then it goes away. In the cold winter months, the squeal is there start to finish. A sharp right or left turn causes the squeal to go away, but once the wheel is straight again, the noise comes back. There is no noise while traveling in reverse.
Pull from the front tires is good. They don't hop or skip, and power transfer is good while stuck or on ice. (right tire spins, stops, left tire grabs, back and forth.)
Fluid levels are OK, fresh grease in all zerks, and I used the bucket to lift the front tires off the ground to relieve any torsion wind up on the front axle. No help.
I'm at a bit of a loss here, anyone have an idea?
