Looks like it'll do great wheelies with a load in the bed.

Interesting. I like the idea of the small diesel. Sure wish Toyota would get on board with that....seems like they could match Mahindra's price and they have an established reputation to go on.

As long as the manufacturing facility meets the same environmental and worker protection/benefit standards as US manufacturers do (within the US), it might be OK.
If it doesn't meet those standards, then it shouldn't be imported.

Toyota? All of the manufacturers should do a small diesel. Funny thing is, when I was in Costa Rica a month ago, small diesel pickups were everywhere. Another thing I saw there, that I had never seen here, is the older style Toyota Landcrusher(FJ40?) with a diesel. Wish they did that with a JEEP. That would be great out rockcrawling...

The sad part is this has been done in the States before. I am not a fan of Toyota, but to their credit they did offer a small diesel 20 years ago. Nissan too. Had a friend who had the Toyota; got great mileage. I don't think it was Turbo though, as it was a slug in performance.

The rest of the world has been doing this for years; this is one area where the US needs to catch up...

To anyone who has traveled anywhere else, Toyota has been making a diesel version of their trucks, as well as a 4 door crew cab version for a very long time. They are quite common in other countries. I would guess that their marketing analysis at the time showed that they would not sell well in the USA, so they marketed them elsewhere.

If anyone has seen the British show "Top Gear", they took a Toyota Hilux diesel and thrashed the snot out of it, including tieing it down to a boat ramp and letting the tide and surf of the north sea flood it. They should have used chains as the surf washed it off the ramp. They recovered it from the tide flat after the tide went back out, purged the water and changed the fluids and drove it away... The set it on fire, took a wrecking ball to it and generally destroyed it. After all this, they could still drive it into the studio. Their term for it was "indestructable". In their newer shows, it is still in the studio as decoration, a red pickup up on a ramp for display alongside the audience.

I would love to have a diesel version of my 88 toyota 4X4:)

Well, if American companies want to sell in Europe, they have to comply with certain ISO standards. If they sell in Japan, they have to comply with certain standards.

It has been proven a percentage of pollution over the US west coast emanates from Asia.

Some of our internal problems (increased crime, gang activity) stem from a lack of decent paying jobs.

So, why not set those standards? Those products can be made in the USA, right?

I thought "The Ugly American" was rather boring...

I mentioned Toyota because in my view they make a dang fine truck...and they are made HERE. Problem is they just don't make one that suits me now, I've owned 2 Toyota pickups in the past and even had a FJ40 back in 74...man I wish I had that back now:cool:
I currently drive a 96 F350 Crew Cab Diesel 4x4 Long Bed ordered in June 95 and delivered late October 95. I'll probably drive it until it totally wears out, and is beyond any repair- I'm just not turned on by anything on the market now, particularly looking at the prices nowadays:(
