I've got an opportunity to pick up one of these with very low hours at a fair price. Problem is I live in the middle of nowhere, have livestock that require daily care and handle the farm pretty much by myself until my dear wife is able to retire and quit driving back and forth from Seattle to E Washington.

I've got a friend that can check the mechanics for me and he is very good. If he gives it the thumbs up I won't hesitate to buy it. Primary uses would be mucking out sheep and pig paddocks, mowing tight areas that I can't put the sheep on, snowblowing about 3/4 mile of access road and other chores that my ancient Ford 4600 is just too big for or doesn't have the traction to handle. Pretty uneven terrain so I'm hoping that someone who has one of these can let me know there experience using one when the going gets rough.

Thanks.

They are tough machines. If you operate on the side of hills limit side tilt to no more than 15 degrees. Maybe get a tilt meter. Other than that the machine should handle the job without a problem.

Thanks Dave, side hill operation shouldn't be a problem, I am one of the world's greatest chickensh$ts when it comes to driving anything on a tilt. Probably has to do with my dear wife being an RN at the regional medical center and all the tractor horror stories she's brought home. Rolling a tractor on myself is way down on my list of fun things to do. I'm going to ask my friend to go out and take a look at it.

I've got a BX2660 and I like it a lot. It will ride rough on bumpy ground, but that's just due to the short wheelbase, and any BX size tractor will ride rough. Mine has R4 tires, which probably exacerbates the rough ride.

But other than that, it's a tough little tractor that will do more work than you would think. The low center of gravity of the BX tractors helps on hillsides. You can also add some wheel spacers to give it even more stability.

If you buy it, I would strongly advise you to call Harry at BXpanded and order some UnderArmor (belly pan) for it to protect the HST fan, and get yourself a Piranha Tooth Bar while you're at it.

Thanks Pappy, pretty good chance I'll be getting this one. 2008 with loader and belly mower, 137 hours and he wants 12K. Seems like a fair price to me, not a steal, but fair for both sides and that makes it a win/win, my favorite kind of deal. I really thank you for the tip on BXpanded. I will order the UnderArmor to protect the sensitive underbelly and the Piranha Tooth Bar looks like the answer to chewing up the mess of poop and hay stems my girls leave around their feeders. I think that loader dolly may get popped into the cart as well.

I hope my friend gives the tractor a clean bill of health, I think it will be a good tool for the farm.

I've had several BXs and Bs and one L. The main difference between the BX and B is ground clearance and the 3 speed trans and no fan like the BX to worry about. Not lots of difference but a few inches can make a world of difference on uneven ground. Had a BX2660 and they are a powerful sub compact with more power than traction.
Every part on the one you mention is 7 years old with an engine that is near new. I think you may want to get a few prices for new one with the attachments you want at 0% interest and then decide. Kubota Corporation is currently having a sale with fairly deep discounts if three attachments added plus the normal 8% to 12% dealer discount off his profit for competitive dealers.

Snowblowing a 3/4 mile road on a BX? If it's a rear mounted blower, my neck gets sore just thinking about it. The BX sounds perfect for the other work, but, even though it's a little workhorse, that's a lot of snow clearing for such a little machine.

I can attest to the stability of the BX2660 on hilly terrain, even mowing sideways e.g. along the road shoulder. With a 60 inch MMM, turf tires without being loaded, it was quite stable. The machine is quite powerful using the FEL
for moving rock, gravel dirt etc., with rear ballast of course.

For snow I used a 5 ft rear blade and the FEL on concrete and gravel and up close to buildings. Never had a snowblower. The price is about right if you are getting some attachments like the FEL and a mower. A MMM might be more manageable in tight places (than a rear finish mower).

Good Luck,
Mike

Pretty much what everyone else said, we really like ours, we added Bro-Tek belly protectors as well as 2" wheel spacers, also put wheel weights on it. As mentioned, it is very stable in stock condition for mowing, but we like the added stability with a loader on our steep hills and levies. I've cleared 1/4 mile of snow with ours, but prefer a bigger tractor for it, fortunately we don't get much snow and when we do I use the 5740.
