I am looking at a used 2007 Ranger XP700 and wanted anyone's experiences with the machine. I tried researching any reliability and mechanical issues with this vehicle but haven't had any luck.

If anyone can give me some insight, I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Dave

I have the 2008 model, very similar, (they have the same service manual, I was told by my dealer). There have been a number of issues with mine, the most expensive was the front diff. It uses a Hilliard system to engage all-wheel drive and in my case, it failed and left the machine all but un-usable while it was half in- half out of gear. First fail was out of warranty, almost $2K to fix. Starting to see some similar symptoms again. I have also experienced speedo problems, TBI sensor and parking brake problems. I use mine for work, mainly, never "Trail Ride". I bought it due to the superior spec sheet for load, both aboard and pulling. When it works, it works very well. I also do not care for the Polaris habit of using special, Polaris only avail special tools and parts, (that I do not think are so special if you go on line for alternatives). I am now looking for an alternative, work focussed machine. I am told by neighbors that have Polaris machines that they have not had problems but they do not use them for work. Perhaps I need to modify my expectation that it will do what it says it can do, on a regular basis. I also have two Arctic Cats and a Kawasaki, none have needed the attention this one needs.

I would recommend asking on the Polaris Ranger Club forum. Lots of knowledgeable guys with experience on the 700s. I've got a 2006 500EFI and a 2012 800 Crew but don't know anything about the 700s.

Avondale,

Thanks for the info. I had read about some of the same front transmission issues as you had on PRC.

You are welcome. I will look into PRC, was not aware of them. Maybe a solution available. I did read about an after-market "roller cage" made of metal that may solve the problem. I need a reliable machine for my farm chores and would prefer not to buy another new machine.

Thank You for the info. I went to the PRC site the other day and unfortunately I was unable to find much data on the 2007 700EFI. Additionally I was a little disappointed with the forum, unlike TBN, there seemed to be more back biting and complaining than actual info exchange (positive or negative).

After reading info here, on PRC, and other locations on the www I called three separate Polaris dealers and talked to the service managers;
- one had obviously drank the Polaris Kool-aid and stated that there are no known issues with any Polaris vehicle, and then tried to forward me to a sales rep.
- one mentioned the heat issue but stated they recommend users install a fan and the heat problem goes away, when I asked about the front tranny issue he paused then stated that yes
there was an issue with the engagement switch that caused some other issues internally.
- the last one came right out and told me that there were transmission as well as heat, and electrical issues with the 700XP and then told me that their dealership will not even take a 700 in
on trade because they did not want to have to deal with the service issues later.,

After my research and talking to the service reps I have decided to pass on the 2007 700XP and keep looking for a different machine. I am still interested in the Polaris and the JD Gator, but I will have to see what is available.

Thanks again.

I've got an 08 Ranger 6x6, over 8000 miles on it now, its mainly a work machine.

No transmission issues at all, still running the original belt. Had a couple of electrical problems, broken wires on the crank and T-BAP sensors, also had to replace the voltage regulator.

Heat can be an issue in the summer....

Overall its been a good machine, does what I need it to do. When Polaris moves the engine to the back of the machine, I'll buy another, not much of a choice for me, nobody offers anything comparable.

Ed,

Thanks for the info. What is a T-BAP sensor, I see it listed as an issue on a lot of the forums but no explanation of what it is.

Ed,

It controls the idle.

The problem lies with the small wires Polaris used on the harness, they break.

Best fix is to go aftermarket.... Only The Best

My suggestion is to buy a new one if you can. Unless you know the complete maintenance and riding history of used ATVs you could be buying into a money pit. Unless your buying this for around 4-5k I wouldnt bother.
