New Holland TC 29
I used my tractor for about an hour today and got off of it for about an hour. Went back to it put the key in all the dash lights on, turned the key and nothing. No dash lights and did not even try to turn over. Took key out and tried again but this time no dash lights came on at all. Checked all fuses and tried again. Dash lights on, turned key and blank again. No head lamps or hazards or anything. Checked battery and ground, all good. Something seems to reset after a 10 - 15 minutes because the dash lights will come back on, but with the same final results.

Any ideas?

About 12.7V. The battary is new, about 3 months old.

Did you take the cables off and clean them or just made sure they were tight. I sound like a bad conection at the battery or starter.

I checked the volatage acrros the cables as well as the battary. Both showed 12.7V. I took the ground off the frame and it look good but took some sand paper and shined it up. Still nothing.

Your results are typical of dirty battery terminals. As you stated, after all power is lost, the dash and lights work again after a few minutes. Your meter has such low loading that it is far less than the dash and lights; therefore, it will read the battery voltage. As soon as you need full current for starting, the tiny spot that is conducting will heat up and lose contact. I suspect if you had your meter on the outside of the battery terminals and tried to start, you'd see the voltage drop to zero.

My suggestion is to pull your terminals and clean the posts and cables. Reattach and I'll bet your problem goes away. If the terminals can't be tightened enough to make a tight connection, then you may need to invest in a new cable.

sounds like some critters were trying to make a home check for a nest and chew up wire grounding out.

also:
make sure she's out of gear try shifting back to neutral.
check pto wires did not get disconnected back tires also check make sure the pto is not engaged.

also try moving your seat forward and back (possible safety switch frozen)

what were you working on?

Must be the weather. MY TC29D went dead (electrically) yesterday. Mine turned out to be the 30A main fuse by the left bulkhead (not part of the fuse block).

I found the short that took it out. My ignition switch had failed a year ago so I replaced it with a generic one and a push button for the glow plugs and one of the wires had rubbed against the throttle cable.

Did you check the 30A fuse? As dead as yours sounds, unless the battery cable is loose/corroded or the ground is loose/corroded (ground to the tractor/starter), I'd bet it's the 30A fuse. But even if that is the case, something caused it to pop...

Good Luck,
Eric

I thought of the main 30 amp but he has dash lights.
What is voltage at starter? what is it when key is turned to start?
Very possible pto wires are off; look under left fender by PTO linkages and make sure wires are all connected. Follow them all the way as connectors become unhooked.
