MF 431
Hello,
I need help finding a part for my 2005 MF 431 Diesel Tractor. My tractor will not start as of yesterday, and I know the part but not the name; and have a few pictures that will help. I have the Operator Manual and don't have parts manual... I just need the part (that I think it is - maybe called a Safety Switch) and someone to help PLEASE, I can't locate the name of the part or number...if this is it?? I don't think its the ignition, and the starter is working fine.

See wires running to part I need. I was testing with a test light and touched two of the posts and it started. It's under the seat by my left hand & their are four wires running to it...where it will jump off and start by touching two together.

Yep. Looks like a PTO Safety Switch. On our 471 there is a plastic connector in the wiring harness there. It vibrates loose. Just squeeze it back together. It's hard to see most of the time we feel for it. Good luck.

Thanks for the help! I got a reply also from a dealer that said it was a PTO Switch part # 046552t1. Would replacing this switch be the right move, it will need to be ordered. I have moved my PTO lever in and out of gear to check that is was not engaged. I did sauder all the connections on there, and will need to remove, will this come with a wiring diagram to color match to each terminal or how will I know which one goes where after taking it apart? I think there are 4 wires...

Make you a short jumper wire to test if it's bad. Jump across the connection. If it'll start then yes replace it. If not look some where else. There is also a neutral safety switch on the tractor.

Anytime you need to rewire something always do it one wire at a time. No diagram needed then.

Ok
To clarify...it does start and run fine when I jump it off from the switch shown in the picture. There's 4 terminals where the wires slide on, and when I touch two of them together with a small screw driver it starts. They are very close together around that switch; it's about 2" dia and the terminals are in a circle around it...easy to arc together. I actually did this by accident when testing for current. I'm thinking that the terminals on it may not be making good contact inside? Since the power makes it to there, and I help it pass by arcing the two of them??

I just took another pict close up showing wires at switch - I hope it worked, learning this new...cool site :)

Sorry I didn't realize you was actually talking about the switch. We have a inline splice connector on ours. That's what is always working loose on us. Yes replace it. Get the new one before you take the old one off. Look on it. It may tell you what wires to place where. R-red wire. B-black or blue wire. Ect. If that's the case it'll be easy. If not. Take a good picture. Then mark the top of the old switch. Remove wires. Remove switch. Match switches. Mark same spot on new switch. Install switch. Then reinstall wires.

And welcome to TBN. Think you'll love it here. But it's a time killer. There's several here from TX. Look at rural living and there's some TX forums. Or you could join the Good Morning crew.

Thanks A lot! Ok... I'll order it. I just hope there's something that will show some kind of orientation on the connectors- since it's just round with what looks like a hex against the body. e.g. All I need is one of them showing a letter or number on a wire color, then I can just keep the same order as what is already on it. * dealer said guess work or even jumping it could cause electrical damage so...we will cross our fingers! I have to jump it off today to cut the field...
I'll let you know how it goes :)

I got it! After 2 wrong parts were ordered by dealer trying to get this safety switch/relay, it plugged right up and crammed no problem :) posting the picture now. I do need a parts manual (I guess), might have helped.

You don't need one,as long as the internet is up. Go here: AGCO Parts Books

Click on "view books" in the lower block where it says Guest user. Enter 431 where it says Search by model, then select Massey Ferguson in the block to the right. Next, scroll down to the 4th line, and select 431 Tractor. On the next page that appears, there will be a list of every component of your tractor. Select one. To the right will be a numbered exploded view of component/section, and to the right of that, description of part, and part number. You can copy, then paste the part number to a search engine such as Google, and look for aftermarket parts, or used parts such as housing's, etc.
