Was working with machine today, all was fine for first hour. A few shut offs . Trans suddenly would not work in forward or reverse. Tried every option on tractor(L,M,H, fast fluid flow, etc.) Fluid level good. No sure where to begin looking. I searched and found that someone once had a bad diode on the control panel board? Any thing else I should look for before I flatbed it to dealer?

Fixed... by doing nothing. Today, went out and started machine, put it in gear and it started to budge. Cycled through forward reverse a few times, still sluggish but machine moving!!! Twenty minutes later, good response from machine off of inching pedal, back to normal? What gives?

Don't know where Flemington is, but could you have a little ice or slush in the trans valves? Doesn't sound like it since it started to foul up while running. Otherwise sounds like a loose wire or connector, except for the "sluggish" remark, which sounds like a fluid issue? Let us know if there are developments.

Did it again yesterday. Plowing, bucketing snow for twenty minutes , around 25 degrees in 4WD. Did fine for the first nineteen minutes, then a slight fade in hydraulics? After that, I drove the tractor down road to help a neighbor, pushed into snow bank with bucket, and lo and behold, no reverse or forward again. Tried same things, putting it in and out of gear, lots of movement with inching pedal, move high med low, spun rabbit/turtle knob. Very strange, again not sure what to look at. I still think it is electrical , not hydro related, where to look?

Any ideas? I took all connectors apart, diaelectric to them, nothing. Played with inching cable adjustment, nada. Is the potentia servicable?

Got it. Laying in bed at night, after searching with google for a half hour or so, I began to problem solve. The piston valve for the dump chamber, driven/ controlled by the inching pedal cable, was not traveling back and forth, covering its full movement. I sprayed some light lube on the valve piston where the cable connects, and watched it begin to move freely as I kept spraying and moving pedal. It really is just a matter of micro millimeters, and tractor jumped back to life. Good thing, dealer was a few MONTHS out on fixing, backed up and not enough help.

I am trying to figure out how you figured that out? Very good indeed but I would like to learn a bit more. Maybe I need to lube something to prevent this from occurring in the first place.

^ Really just process of elimination type thing. I began to realize that I use the inching pedal too much with my machine, pretty much with every forward reverse shift. Not supposed to with EHSS, but it is a habit hard to break coming from 8n, TC 33, etc. I had an issue about a year ago , fixed by adjusting inching pedal. The cable has to be within a very small range of motion(2mm). Overuse will stretch cable, etc. When I learned how the inching pedal cable controlled the EHSS trans dump valve, a light went off in my head. This is after trying to adjust pedal, cable, going over every electrical connection, harness, etc. Hours. I just figured the valve piston might have gotten sticky from overuse or dust. I was so happy to see it move out freely in and out from valve as I exercised the pedal/cable and sprayed lube onto it. Knew right then that would do it! I hope this helps someone in the future who may also get away with this quick fix.

Thanks for running through the thought process. It makes you wonder what it would have cost you had you taken it in. All depends on the experience of the mechanic looking at it.
