hello i bought a new sedona in jan of 2002, kia;s come with a 60000 bumper to bumper warranty and 100000 drive terrain warranty. I brought it in for some nucaince warranty work cause it had 59000 miles. the transmission was slipping a little when the temp was very warm out. i had changed the fluid at home at like 29000 but i didnt save the receipt. They said i needed to change it again at 60000 so i told them to go ahead and do it. well now the thing wont move at all!! they r telling me where i didnt save my maintaince records ie receipts from walmart/vip for the oil/ filters from oil and transmission changes that they wont honor the warranty claim. Is there anything i can do?? i have talk to people all the way up the chain and they tell be bottom line if i cant furnish proof i did maintance then they wont fix it?? thanks jamie

And unfortunately, they're probably telling you right. That's only one of the reasons I keep all those receipts in a folder in a file cabinet.

I have been hearing that consistently with Kia's and Hundai's. No receipt, No warranty. There is also no way to transfer any remaining warranty.

Been through this type of warranty issues on another forum.

My deal is that what does a receipt show from walmart etc prove? Unless they did the fluid change, there is not even anyway to prove these fluids purchased were installed correctly or even installed on this car.

Sounds like your dealer is trying to make money off ya.

So the car worked until they worked on it? Odd. Then again the people working there could carless since they are powerless. They need to have Kia make they call since they are the ones paying for it.

All my years with car/trucks etc, never been asked to show anything.

I decided to try to find Kia's warranty booklet. While I found a 2005 manual and was surprised to see if it was 114 pages in lenght.

Here is an excerpt from 2005 warranty Manual 4+meg :
"Maintenance Records
You should retain maintenance records since it may be
necessary in some instances for you to prove that the
required maintenance has been performed. The
“Scheduled Maintenance Record” beginning on page 36
should be filled in when regular maintenance is
performed. Keep all receipts and make them available in
case questions rise about the services requested and
provided."

And

What Is Not Covered
"Damage due to Lack of Maintenance or the Use of
Wrong Fuel, Oil or Lubricants.
• Improper maintenance or the use of other than the
specified fuel, oil or lubricants recommended in your
Owner’s Manual."

Looks like they are trying to use these 2 clauses to exclude warranty claims. About 50 pages of the manual gives difference state by state.

good thing my lexus dealer does not care about receipts nor did Ford when I had it.

Goodluck.

I still would press the issue it worked before they worked on it.

Sounds like the best bet would be to push the case that the car was working (even with a small slip) when you brought it in so it needs to be returned to that condition?

When you say you've talked all the way up the chain, is that just at the local dealer or to their regional and national reps?

Otherwise, does sound like you're in a bad spot.

Thanks everyone for your thought's Yes i went all the way to the national rep and was told by each of them that i need to furnish receipts or else no fix. I tried to tell them that i brought it in working fine, only slipps when hot and we r getting cold here in maine already, that they r the ones who broke it but they said i told them it had a slight slip so it was broken coming in. I think i have tried everything i can so just gona haul it outa there and bring it somewhere to get rebuild i guess. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

If you had all the receipts they would find another excuse not to make repairs to your auto . They have a book of excuses to use on you .I have a dodge ram truck that I bought new. When it had approx. 2500 mi. (It was no where near the end of the warranty of 36000 mi.) The dealer refused to replace the cracked plastic dash. I met with the area factory rep. & he also refused to honor the warranty. The excuse the rep. gave me for refusing the warranty claim. HE HAD NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN BEFORE !! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif I let him know that I would never buy another dodge product & would spread the word. I don't care if an auto . manufacture offers a life time warranty , let something happen & you can bet they will wiggle out of it !

How much money will it take to fix?

If the amount to fix the tranny is below the limit for small claims court. Sue em. If its more then its lawyer time.

Given that it was working when you brought it in I think they would have a problem in court. But you never know.

The other thing to try is your local Trouble Shooting TV station. usually at least one TV station will have a trouble shooter segment. I would think they would like this story.

Good Luck.
