I know we have been here before but, I was just flipping through a auto swapper and notticed that there was a used tractor dealer selling 2001 yanmar 1510 and also other almost new yanmars including another 2001 model year. I recently purchased a 1720d and was pretty sure this was it was built in the early 80's after the xx10 series. Oh well just thought I would pass it along btw excellent forum E.L.

Yep, gotta wonder about those dealers offering nearly brand new Yanmars, dont know the exact year the JD/Yanmar deal went through and they no longer imported new Yannies, I used to work for a neighbor that bought a new Yanmar back when I was 10-12 yrs old (eegad!!! thats been 20 yrs ago) and I think the deal went through soon after that, I think he sold it soon after that because he was afraid he wouldn't be able to get parts for it.

Ya gotta wonder about guys like this. They also sell other tractors.....would you believe anything they tell you about any of the tractors they sell????? They also have Massey Fergusons that look an awful lot like a grey market. No roll bars, selling them as 2001's!! This dealers got cajones the size of basketballs.

Na, no nuts needed, believe it or not there are just a huge amount of naive customers and an equal amount of dealers waiting to take advantage. I am still waiting to see a 40hp, 2002 Yanmar 1401's for sale on eBay. The justification will be some huge math equation that takes into account the tire rotational friction x seat coefficient inverse to crank rotation directly proportional to gamma ration emitted from sun spots. But they will stick with it because that is what some guy somewhere told them and they will go to their grave preaching it. I saw a used 3pt backhoe for sale the other day at a dealer in another town. It looked very familiar so I stopped in to look. The dealer came out and told me all about this Massy Fergusson backhoe and he knew what year it was built and everything, even what factory it was built in. It made me laugh. I built the backhoe and it still had my serial # stamped in the side. He was asking twice what it sold for new so he had to make it sound special. The sad part is that I know he screwed the guy that traded it in. funny business eh...

Check the date stamped on the rear rims (4-82). Not always exact, but if they weren't swapped, gives you a close idea when tractor was mfg.

With so much information available on this forum and others, it amazes me that these bozos can stay in business. I guess there really is a sucker born every minute. /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

Some of the tractors I sell are repainted, some not. I had someone look today at a 1401d that was painted and he thought it was new. It does have a new loader, 3 pt hitch & box on it. I explained to him what he was getting (USED tractor built in 79-81) and showed him some things to look for. Most people have no idea. I don't think they are necessarily "suckers", but just not educated or aware of the facts. Even if they don't buy from me, I try to give them some insight. Maybe they will come back later. Maybe not. At least my conscience is clear. Honesty is always best in the short or long run.

Jim, seeing your most recent post reminded me, and I almost hate to bring it up, did you ever get your charging problem solved on the 1401d? If so, maybe you could tell how in a new thread.

Norm,
I ended up trying the Kohler VR just for my own curiosity. Seems to be ok now. I also have a spare Yanmar VR if I go to sell this tractor. I plan on keeping this 1401d for a demo and for my own use.

There is a new belief system that has quietly replaced the now outdated and traditional morals of my older generation. As you say, it seems to have something to do with "everything is fair if it is justifiable". Math does seem to be popular as a justifier. Even though I don't completely understand the rationale, I think it will somehow work out for the good. For one thing, it is certainly going to force buyers to become better educated.

The first time I noticed that type of advertising was about 10 years ago at one of the chain tool stores. They were advertising a 5 hp air compressor that plugs into a 110 volt circuit. It is true as far as it goes. The problem is that they are measuring hp via current at full stall. Therefore, most of the hp calculation is based on heat, and hardly any on torque. The motor can only put out that many hp for a few seconds....actually only for the time it takes for the breaker to throw. But because of the math, they are justified in saying that it will put out that many hp.....just as long as they don't say for how long!
