I am trying to identify whether or nor my system has the 6/12 volt resistor in the wireing harness. I have a manual with diagrams and they are not specific enough for me to understand. It is an original shop manual. I do have a wire coming from the coil to the solenoid and it has a thickened area about 1 and 1/2 inches long that could be a resistor. It is manufactured into the wire and I am stumped. Does any one know what I should be looking for or a po

IIRC, the "thickened area" on the solenoid wire is a fusable link, not a resistor.

What problem are you having?
Are you running a 12 volt battery on a 6 volt system?

Soundguy seems to think so. I made another post the other day please read. I will post the link next if I can figure out how. THANKS

no i AM not.

Please get this straight!

the 3 cyl are a 12v system .. 12v gen.. 12v bat.

they however used a 6v coil and resistor wire.

this is NOT rocket science.!!!

if you go to a dealer to purchase a repalcement coil for that 12v tractor you get a 6v coil due to their being a resistor wire in there.

if you or someone has removed the resistor wire... you just get a real 12v coil.

ic7 is a 6v coil. no resistor

ic14 is a 12v coil.. no resistor

i fail to see where the confusion is coming from...

it is a 12v system. uses a 12v battery.. has a 12v gen. from the factory.

also fromt he factory.. that 12v system used a 6v coil and a resistor wire... kinda like the original 9n /2n used a 3-4v coil and a ballast resistor... etc...

Soundguy, that was a misunderstanding of mine. By the end of the day, you are going to simply just hate me I suppose. When you are trying to figure something out like I was doing, its because you don't know. One time I thanked you for your help with another issue and you said that's what we are here for. If I understood how all these things worked, I would not need to ask a professional like you guys. My intent when posting on this forum is to get help, not to piss someone off due to my lack of knowledge. Im sorry, it took a little explaining for me to catch on. Thanks though, you have been a tremendous help and the last thing I wanted to do was have you upset at my inability to understand non-rocket science.

my main issue was about the 6v coil NOT having an internal resistor.

too many people hear that then repeat it.. that is how myth's start.

just trying to head it off at the pass, so to speak.

when you measure your system, points closed, key on, measure from incoming primary of coil to ground. again.. points closed.

if bat volts.. no resistor wire. if a few/couple volts less... then there is a resistor inline.. wire or otherwise.

open points to compair value. IE. if you measure 9v points closed. it should become bat volts points open. as a doublecheck.
