Here's the thread that describes what I'm shopping for:

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...s/107856-city-boy-shopping-first-tractor.html

I saw this L4610 today and for the money it seems like a decent tractor. I drove it and it seemed to run fine, but I don't have tractor experience. The throttle was fairly hard to move, is that normal? The tires seem about half worn, and one front tire has a crack/cut in the tread. Cindy offered the salesman $14,000 and he said no. Is that common? I would have thought that they would have come down at least $500...

Anyways, here's some pics (click to enlarge):

It's really up to you texasjohn.:D

Never mind. Appearently someone thought it was a fair deal because it already sold.

I would not have paid that much for that tractor. It looks like a good machine but it also looks like it has been used hard. I think the price is okay, but wouldn't call it a 'good deal'. Plus, add a couple of grand to that and you could get something new at 0% that is at least close to it.

But, the tractor is worth what someone will pay for it. So apparently $14,500 was exactly what it was worth.

Thanks for the feedback N80. I had enough doubts about this one not to jump on it immediately. Sure is nice to have you all to back us up.:)

Have you talked with a dealer to see what a new one would cost you? There are two dealers in my area and they were thousands apart. For my new L3430 I paid close to what some folks were asking for good used equipment. Plus with the 0% it ended up being a no brainer. Shop some dealers and at least see what they can do.
Good luck

Our local Kubota dealer seems very fair rpraymond. I got a quote on a L4740HST w/ LA854 FEL for $25K. The other nearby dealers have all been at around $26,500. The problem is that Cindy isn't comfortable in that price range. I'm thinking about going to the dealer and asking what he can do with $18K and see if I think it will work for our needs.

I would have skipped this one as well. The front axle had alot of damage for typical use. In the future be sure to look at the grease points and the seals that typically have short lives(for example front knuckle)

I have bought (2) 50 Hp tractors over the summer in the price range you are looking at
1998 M4700 262 hours $17K plus shipping with brushhog and PHD
1999 M5400 460 hours $16-18K range, needed some cosmetic work.

A used M series may be a great fit for your needs.

Thanks design, I wondered about the wear so that's why I took those close-ups.

I would look at M series but I'm not willing to give up HST.
