20 hp Kohler engine won't start hot

I have been looking over this site for an hour now trying to find out how to contact someone about starting a new forum. on trouble shooting small engines. We have a 20 hp Kohler engine at a cemetery I help mow. When it get's hot it won't start till it cools back down . If we had a small engine forum I could maybe get an answer to what is wrong.

This is a long-shot. What model mower do you have? I had the same problem with my Grasshopper. It turned out not to be a problem with the engine but with a loose ground wire on the frame. Try shaking the mower while you turn the key with the engine hot, if it starts you may have a loose wire. Good Luck.

If the engine runs fine until you shut it off, then it is not the coil. Does the engine ever shut down when running at full throttle? Check spark, check gas line for vapor lock. Can you get it started by putting some gas in the carb?

I agree it could be a faulty coil but, it could be that grass and debris is causing it to overheat and vapor lock, I would clean up the flywheel area and cylinder fins to see if it cures the issue.

I give another vote for bad coil. I have a 14hp and that was the exact problem I had. Ran great until I shut it off and then would have to let it cool off before it would start. Changed coil and no more problem.
