Hello everyone, just wanted to share a new implement I purchased over the summer.

It is (according to Google searches) an Orthman Soil Mover. I haven't taken measurements but the guy I bought it from said it should be about a 2.5 yard capacity.

It works great and is a perfect match to my tractor, a 2008 Kubota M5040 50HP. I have used it with the loader on and off, and works well either way. I actually prefer the loader off due to the increased visibility and easier maneuvering. My rear tires are filled with liquid, so hitting the diff lock when loading provides plenty of traction.

EDIT: After much hassle, the pictures are showing up correctly, they were opening upside down.

Here are a few videos, the quality is a little poor, not sure how to get proper quality videos from my phone to YouTube.

Hopefully you all can see the pictures correctly. I think I get them working correctly, let me know if some still open upside down.

Interesting tool. As for the pictures, thought you might just be in Australia or something on the other side.

THAT'S a real scraper. You will get some quality work done with that implement.

Nice earth mover, looks like it is working good for you in that soft red dirt.
Those cans are a nice way to move dirt a distance for leveling or terracing a field.

How much dirt are you planning to move? Why are you moving it?
(Way cool toy btw)

Easy to figure the capacity, just multiply Length x width x depth of the bucket in feet and divide by 27 to get cubic yards. Those are great for digging a pond also. As you circle the outer perimeter dumping the dirt which was dug up from the center, it packs the soil in good. Just remember to remove all vegetation from the dam area before you start adding soil to make the dam. You can use the scraper as a blade to smooth and widen the top of the dam as you go. A fun project if you can get it all done prior to getting a rain that fills it with water.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I have 45 acres that needs lots of TLC, so it will get plenty of use.

My biggest project was moving a large pile of dirt leftover from some dozer work I had done to level a pad for my shop. I moved the pile to the back of my property and have been using it to fill in various holes and washouts. In a year or two I plan to build a pond and will use some of that dirt for the dam. I hope to rent a dozer for the week and run the scraper and dozer together for about a week straight and build a nice pond. I have an old friend that does dirt work for a living that said he would help out. :)

Other than that, think of it as a substitute for a dump truck or dump trailer on my own property.

Sizing your pics before attaching them will improve the handling for you and viewers.

I bought my 5.5yd Midland Scraper 5 or 6 years ago. I paid $4,700 for it. I'll never sell it. I've moved thousands of yards of dirt with it. Great tool. Yours might be a bit better matched to your tractor than mine. If gathering hard soil I want my FEL on and fill the bucket to add tractor weight.
