Ok so i didnt know what forum to post it under so, i defaulted to hear.

After the closeing of the house and i get to get a few new toys, i asked the CFO what SHE wanted in terms of "large item" toy. (got to keep her happy you know).

She wanted an above ground pool.

OK i said.

So after discussing it (and having found most my items on craigslist) one night i said, ok for S&G's lets see what CL holds for above ground pools...

HOLY COW, like 15 diffrent posts of people nearly giveing away good 2-4 year old pools!

but they good ones moved quick, usually withing a few days of listing. As i had spent hrs searching CL for MY deals, i told her to find the one she wanted and let me know. within a week she had, and nearly local to boot.

WIth the help of a good friend ( icouldnt have done it without him) juile took off work last fri early about 3 and we went to take it down. Still had water in it. in 3 hrs we had it packed up and headed home.

I had helped a neighbor in STL put one up so i figured to uninstall one was the reverse process. (it basicly was)

The day before we had spent the day cleaning out the area of the yard were the pool was to live. (a days project in an of itself) Once cleared off, i couldn't resist digging in the dirt. but not wanting to haul bucket after bucket of dirt half way arosss 2 ackers to my dirt pile, i glanced over and saw my "new" dump truck sitting there.

I figured what better job to break it in on. I didnt have to drive it on the road, and i could see weather or not it would dump a load of material.

Turns out by the time i got done digging about half the area out, i had a full load of wet dirt. (the pics are about 3 buckets shy of when i quit)

having my FEL up in the air before i thought i could reach over a much higher sided truck. but as it turns out, the side height of my truck is about as high as you would want. Techinically i suppose it could be a foot higher but its hard enough to see were you are dumping at that height.

We are planning on setting the 21' pool 6" in the ground which doesnt sound like much, but in reality its a quite a bit of dirt to move. A truckload represents about half of what i need to remove. ~6" deep with an 1" foam board and 1" of sand in the bottom.

so without further ado, the pics (what youve been waiting for)

(before you comment on the 3507 pic, its an optical illusion, the ground slopes downhill to the left, but with all the dirt sitting on the right side of the bed, the bed sits lower uphill, makeing it look level, the axle sits slightly downhill makeing it look like that tire is all tweeked)

what the dump looks like

A dump truck can be invaluable when you have lots to move a great distance.
I bought a '58 IH A-160 which is a ton and a half truck for $300 I think, it has been some years ago. It has a grain bed on it with a lift, so it doesn't always dump high enough to get everything out, but much easier than using a wheelbarrow!
I haven't had it running a a couple of years, I need to do that, just to keep it from seizing up.
I'll try to scan a picture in.

Looks like it's the perfect sized dump truck for your tractor!!!!

Nice to see those action shots, and how nicely it's working out for you.

Don't forget the "EZ dumper" inserts for your pickups, guys. I had one way back before I bought my beast and it was a pretty nice little toy for just what you guys are doing.

How much did that truck set you back?

I am looking at either a truck or a dump trailer in the not-too-distant future.

I think a truck your size would be more useful than a trailer, but a trailer would be cheaper & more reliable.

I was in the same situation last year. I wanted a dump truck one day then a dump trailer the next day. Well, one look at the cost of tags and registration for the dump truck and I quickly opted for the trailer. And that is assuming that is passed inspection. I can now move my tractor easily anywhere I want to go and actually haul more material than with the dump truck ( atleast the one i was looking at ) I can haul 8,200lbs in the trailer which is very handy....
