John Deere 4300
I will be selling my 1999 JD 4300 in a few months and would like some other opinions on what it is a fair private party value. It is four wheel drive, hydrostatic drive, mid pto, r4 tires, 430 loader, and 740 hrs. I purchased it new and have all the book/records. It is in very nice condition and has never spent a single night outside. Everything works and nothing is cracked or broken. It has had a coat of wax on it since I purchased it. What do you think it is worth?

It sounds like a nice tractor. And you have the bigger loader on it. What it is worth
really depends on the economy in your area. Fall/winter is not the best time to sell,
either.

In my area, I would list it for $12K, and take $11K if it is as nice as you describe. You
may want to wait for spring....

Searching TractorHouse and MachineFinder will get you in the ballpark.

I agree...get some ballpark prices on those sites.
I've always kept my eye on prices for the 4300, 4310, 4400, 4410 and 790 Deeres. Since I bought my 4400 a couple years ago, I have noticed the used prices (at least the asking prices) have risen a bit. A few years back, I'd see dealer asking prices in the $14K-$15K range. Now they're asking $16K-$18K.

As far as your 4300, I think I'd see what kind of responses I'd get asking $15K.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking of waiting until spring and listing it for $15k. $11k- $12k seemed low to me for a low hour /excellent condition tractor. It is nice to know that they really hold their value. I believe I paid $18k for the tractor/loader new.

About a year ago I paid $21K for a 2001 4500 PowrReverser w/ a 460 FEL & 48 backhoe that had 900 hours. I felt that I overpaid by several thousand, but it was local, and, I was in dire need of a backhoe. In retrospect, backhoes seem to disproportionately add to the value of a machine, so I probably paid what it was worth.

In my area, my refurbed 2001 4300 is listed for a firm $15.5K with nary a nibble. And that's with a new
backhoe and subframe. Your area may bring better prices; I usually have no trouble getting
what I ask for my tractors, but I don't normally sell this time of year.
