Anyone know the best way to flush out and clean the Fuel tank and diesel fuel system on a 1995 TAFE 35 Di farm tractor?

Unfortunately they don't make the TAFE any longer and our local dealer has gone out of business, so even the mechanics with the knowledge aren't available...

Between a rock and a hard place with this...

Thanks,

Al, does the tank have a bottom drain?? Does it feed the rest of the system from the top or bottom of the tank??
IF it does, just remove the fitting & drain.. add fuel & drain.. over & over until its clean enough for you..
Can u remove the tank or is it built in?? {welded}
The last time I had a piece of equipment that had a welded in tank w/ BAFFLES.. I had to call-in a mobile "fuel polisher"..
He has a truck w/ filters & compressors & fitting & all sorts of "stuff"..
"HE" cleaned "that type" of tank for me.. I'm just throwing that out there as an option..
I don't know where Bascom is..?? BUT being in Florida, there are probably 100 different fuel polishing companies.. if it comes to "that"..
Good Luck..

This is a license on a Massy Ferguson 35 with a little bit modernized engine?

What are your symptoms?

Yes, I know. It is a Massey-Ferguson 35D clone with the exception of the ignition system which is Bosh and the diesel engine which is a Standard diesel engine. I have been using Massey-Ferguson parts on it ever since my local dealers either stopped selling TAFE or went out of business... I am going to change the primary and secondary fuel filter elements and then use some 'biocide agent' to see if I can't clean buildup out of the tank and injectors before I drain and flush out the fuel tank... It runs fine when it isn't being driven over the very rough terrain I have been trying to remove limbs and level depressions and holes with my box-blade that it acts up, that's why I think it is something in the tank that gets suspended when I work on the very, very rough terrain... It starts loosing power and the RPMs go way down. Yesterday I let it sit at my barn running and it eventually got up to 2200 RPM, which is about full RPMs for the 35 DI...

If its the same tang as the MF the only way is to remove the fuel valve, and its a small strainer on top of the valve, if this is missing you are in for all kinds of pain when it comes to fuel problems.

Thanks Agvg;

Do you know if the strainer you speak of is attached to the out-valve on the fuel tank or actually attached to inside of the tank? If I do remove the petcock out fuel valve and there is no strainer, I may install another strainer assembly just off the valve connection. There is a glass settlement bowl with a strainer on the outside of the fuel pump that runs to the primary and secondary fuel filters. I have done that trick to other fuel systems so it won't be too much of a choir to replace a tank strainer with an external fuel strainer... Thanks for the input!

The strainer is mounted on the fuel valve, it just a piece of plastic, see picture MG_1851654_2.jpeg
