1995 770 fuel solenoid won't engage

i have a 96 770 that will not pull back the fuel solenoid. I jump across the relay under the steering wheel and the solenoid pulled in and cranked. Would I be correct i thinking that I just need a new relay or could there be some other safety keeping the solenoid from engaging. Does anyone know how the relay can be tested? i hate to buy one for 30$ and it not fix the problem.

This may or may not help at all. At one point, my similar year 770 had the same issue. I did some troubleshooting and found an inexplicably blown fuse on a circuit board that I believe was on the left hand side of the instument panel. If memomry serves me, this board was used to accomodate the various electrical safety features. I replaced that fuse and never had a problem again.
