I have a 1993 318 in excellent condition. The deck will not engage, any help would be appreciated. It will shut off if your not sitting on seat when you attempt to engage the deck. In addition the voltage battery light is on and when I flip the switch it goes out, but the deck does not turn on.

I have an '89 318, there is an underseat safety switch that is supposed to kill the engine if you try to engage the mower PTO if not sitting on the seat. Be sure all the connections under the seat on the shut off switch are clean and tight and that the switch is not damaged. At about 800 hours my 318 started to get reluctant to engage the blades like yours does, I ended up replacing the lever switch that engaged the PTO clutch. Yours may have a loose or corroded connection under the dash, How many hours do you have on your 318? Does the engine start okay when you are sitting on the seat and the PTO switch is not on?
