My tractor has started well not starting. Some times it starts and sometimes it doesn't do a thing and then bam it starts. Solenoid is clicking but no juice to starter. I can check the pto switch and have. I think I only have two safety switches and was wondering where the neutral safety switch is and how to access? Thanks Ricky

The switch is internal to the transmission and accessible by removing the shift cover. You can test it by unplugging the wires going to the switch at a connector above the shift cover and checking continuity with a VOM.

You references and terminology make no sense what so ever. What solenoid are you talking about?

I am guessing the starter solenoid, if it is clicking but not turning over the problem is most likely internal to the starter solenoid, internal to the starter itself, or in one of the large wires going from the battery to the frame or from the battery to the starter solenoid.

Before going after the solenoid, be certain that your cables are FIRMLY attached at the battery, and that the ground cable is firmly bolted with good contact to the ground. A loose ground connection will give you the sometimes start/sometimes not situation.

The solenoid clicking says that your safety switch is closed allowing power to your solenoid primary winding. Since you hear the click the next question is whether or not it is closing the high current circuit so power will go to your starter.

We used to use a pair of common pliers with the handles placed across the input and output ⅜" copper terminals of the solenoid. Yes it will spark, but if you do that and the starter pops or makes any kind of motion that it wants to move, your hight current contacts in your solenoid are burned out. Time for a new one and be careful that you get one that will work with your safety switch.....that's one that there are 2 small studs on it, isolated from everything else in the solenoid whereby one goes to your safety switch to pickup ground and the other goes up to your key switch for power.
