i guess that really depends on the condition. i bought an international 384 2wd no loader, 1980 for 3700. now granted mine is a 38 hp 4 cyl diesel, but 4 seems to be in the ball park. i would try negotiate a little with him. 3- 4 k for a good older tractor doesnt seem to be unreasonable. as far as what to look for, first thing i looked for when i started shopping was parts availability, thats part of the reason i stayed away from the grey market tractors. second thing is give the tractor a good looking over, does it start well, is there excessive slop in the steering a suspension,does it smoke? how does the engine run under a load? check for excessive leaks, and make sure the three point works like its supposed to, especially with a little weight on it. those were all things i looked for when i bought mine and i think i got a pretty fair deal.
