1987 #1106 Cub Cadet starting problem

Wouldn't start. Sizzling noise coming from coil. Took it off and got it tested by a mechanic: it's fine. Tried bypassing the switch by jumping battery connection of the coil and the little post on top (according to mechanic: same sizzling noise. Cleaned 5 switch posts; same problem.
Any idea anyone please ?
