I feel like an idiot but here goes. Replaced the clutch disc on the tractor. New throw out bearing all bolts torqued properly. Still doesn't work. Clutch will not disengage drives well if you start it in gear. Not sure what happened. Pretty pissed after splitting the tractor and all!!!!

Can you feel resistance on the clutch pedal when you push it down..?? 3 quick things come to mind. #1 Pressure plate is bad. ie; broken springs, worn fingers, etc., dragging in one area. #2 Clutch plate put in backwards. But, they are marked, and if it was doing this before, probably not the problem. #3 Pins sheared in the cross shaft, that hold the TOB fork. The reason I asked if you felt resistance, like it is disengaging the clutch.

To be honest, if you didn't replace the pressure plate, along with the new clutch disc, that could have been the culprit all along.

thanks!!! I was told by someone who looked at pressure plate it should work wasn't worn that bad. He was kind of leaning toward that decision cause I guess they are near impossible to get now. I have the clutch plate put in right raised hub facing rear of tractor. Before I put it back together I pushed the pedal down and the throw out bearing would move in and out quite a bit. I guess that takes out the sheared pins in cross shaft right? I feel resistance in the pedal but not a lot I don't think. Not my tractor and I am a backyard mechanic fixing this for a friend. Don't know much about tractors. Could those pins be sheared if it was moving the thrust bearing? Clutch is definitely not disengaging even a little. Looking for any possible problem before splitting the tractor again with the good probability its the pressure plate like you said. Thanks for the help very nice. Any other ideas before tractor dissection would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would take a lot to shear those pins. If the fork is moving, probably not, but some people have a habit of riding the pedal, and can cause damage. I'd still lean towards the pressure plate, unless the pilot bushing is worn so bad, it's letting the input shaft drop enough to cock the disc. Again, worse case scenario... Make sure the pedal is adjusted to specs.... Usually 3/4" to 1" of free travel.

I guess split again, and make sure the fingers are fully released. They usually rest against the back side of the PP housing, as a stop. If they aren't even, look at the spot where the one that isn't.

Gotta' go work on bridle trails... Good luck..!!

I just ordered a pressure plate. Can you explain to me how the clutch works? I cant seem to get it through my head. The throwout bearing pushes against the clutch fingers and the rest I am not getting
